As Utah determines Cam Rising’s status for this week’s game against Utah State, the Utes quarterback received a heartfelt message from a conference rival. Colorado coach Deion Sanders took to social media to offer his support after Rising’s injury last week.

In the first half of last week’s victory over Baylor, Rising got hit on his way to the sideline and ran into a water cooler. He headed to the locker room with a towel over his right hand, and Kyle Whittingham confirmed he suffered an injury.

Sanders offered his support for Rising as he works his way back. He’s in his seventh season of college football after missing the 2023 campaign as he recovered from a torn ACL, and Coach Prime praised his resiliency.

“Praying for @Utah_Football Cam Rising,” Sanders wrote. “God bless u, your family & team. You’re a awesome resilient young man.”

Sanders later made another post, saying a troll account got him thinking Rising was seriously hurt. But he again praised the Utah quarterback’s ability to bounce back from injuries throughout his career.

“I was really bothered by thinking this kid was hurt again,” Sanders wrote. “God bless the trolls. They’re pretty good at what they do. Still God bless this young man & I do think he’s awesome for what’s he’s endured.”

Thursday morning, The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reported Rising is “unlikely” to play in Saturday’s game due to a finger injury on his throwing hand. It’s not expected to be a long-term issue, though, which bodes well for his chances to play next week against Oklahoma State.

Rising’s injury occurred with less than two minutes to play in the second quarter. He immediately reached for his hand when he hit the ground, and after evaluation in the tent, headed back to the locker room.

After the game, Whittingham said Rising likely avoided a serious injury. However, details were scarce during his postgame interview on FOX.

“We don’t think it’s serious,” Whittingham told Allison Williams. “That’s all I’ve been told. So let’s hope that is the case.”

At the time of his injury, Rising completed 8 of 14 passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Wilson came in to replace him as Utah took a 23-3 lead into halftime.

Rising is in his seventh season of college football after missing the 2023 campaign because of his recovery from a significant knee injury. He didn’t waste much time in his season debut, throwing a 64-yard touchdown pass against Southern Utah in his first game action since 2022.

In that season-opening victory, Rising didn’t miss a beat. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns before handing the keys over to Wilson in the 49-0 victory.
