Cam Rising injury update: Kyle Whittingham gives positive update on quarterback's hand
Utah coach Kyle Whittingham had an update on the injury to starting quarterback Cam Rising following an 23-12 win against Baylor on Saturday. Rising exited the game with a hand injury after running into a water cooler in the second quarter and never returned.
The quarterback was later seen on the sidelines with two of his fingers on his right hand taped together. With many wondering what his status will be heading into next week, Whittingham indicated that it won’t be something that keeps him out long term.
“We don’t think it’s serious,” the coach said postgame on FOX. “That’s all I’ve been told. So let’s hope that is the case.”
Rising is in his seventh season of college football after sitting out all of 2023 due to an ACL injury. He led the Utes to back-to-back Pac-12 Championships in 2021 and 2022 while throwing for a combined 5,527 yards, 46 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

The return of Rising this season had many experts predicting Utah to win another conference championship in their first year as a member of the Big 12. The quarterback looked good in Week 1 against Southern Utah to finished 10-of-15 passing for 254 yards and five touchdowns.
Rising was on track for another big day against Baylor before the injury forced him to leave the game. He ended the day 8-of-14 passing for 92 yards and two touchdowns, as well as 21 yards rushing.
