Utah quarterback Cam Rising is done for the day after suffering a hand injury in the first half Saturday against Baylor. Rising was pictured on the FOX broadcast on the sidelines in street clothes early in the third quarter.

The quarterback had two of his fingers on his right hand taped together. Sideline reporter Allison Williams offered an update on his status.

“His day is clearly done,” she said. “You can see he has a bandage on his right hand on the two middle fingers. For what it’s worth, he’s smiling. He seems to be in good spirits, but unfortunately back in a role he became too familiar with last year in supporting his team from the sidelines.”

The Utes entered halftime with a 23-3 advantage and can hopefully hold on in the second half without their starting QB. Rising was 8-of-14 passing for 92 yards and two touchdown before he exited the game. He also had two carries for 21 yards rushing.

Cam Rising is no stranger to injury, as he missed all of the 2023 season after tearing his ACL in the Rose Bowl the year before. His return this year has many projecting Utah as a contender for the Big 12 Championship in their first year in the conference.

Rising is in his seventh season of college football and wasted no time getting back to business in Week 1’s season-opening win against Southern Utah. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns.

Isaac Wilson took over at quarterback for the Utes following the injury to Rising on Saturday. The true freshman is so far 4-of-9 passing for 30 yards as Utah is holding on to a 23-12 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining.

We’ll await a postgame update to find out more about Rising’s status heading into Week 3 against Utah State.
