Cam Rising injury update: Utah QB leaves game vs. Baylor with apparent hand injury
Cam Rising headed back to the locker room with a towel around his hand during Saturday’s game against Baylor. The Utah quarterback was running toward the sideline and got hit into a water cooler on his way out of bounds, and headed to the medical tent afterward.
Rising’s injury occurred with less than two minutes to play in the second quarter. He immediately reached for his hand when he hit the ground, and after evaluation in the tent, headed back to the locker room. KSLSports’ Steve Bartle reported it’s a possible finger injury on his throwing hand.
According to FOX’s Allison Williams said Kyle Whittingham confirmed Rising is dealing with a hand injury. He is questionable to come back and was still in the locker room as the third quarter got underway.
“Cam Rising has not come out of the locker room here to start the second half, and head coach Kyle Whittingham did confirm with me that it is a hand injury and called him questionable to return,” Williams said. “I’ll also tell you guys, I saw some blood on that towel he had draped over his right hand as he headed into the locker room.

“You guys felt it, there was a palpable difference in this stadium when Cam got hurt, and Coach Whittingham acknowledged that. But he said, we have to rally around who is in there, continue to work. Just because he’s gone, we cannot fold the tent. Isaac Wilson, he wants him to have command of the offense, exude confidence and be a leader.”

At the time of his injury, Rising completed 8 of 14 passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Wilson came in to replace him as Utah took a 23-3 lead into halftime.
Rising is in his seventh season of college football after missing the 2023 campaign because of his recovery from a significant knee injury. He didn’t waste much time in his season debut, throwing a 64-yard touchdown pass against Southern Utah in his first game action since 2022.
In that season-opening victory, Rising didn’t miss a beat. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns before handing the keys over to Wilson in the 49-0 victory.
