Cam Rising throws 64-yard touchdown pass in first game back from injury
Cam Rising suited up to play in his first football game since 2022 when Utah took the field to take on Southern Utah on Thursday night.
It didn’t take long for him to find his rhythm, either by hitting wideout Dijon Stanley for on a 64-yard bomb untouched for the Utes’ first touchdown of the season. The score was good for Rising’s first since the 2022 Rose Bowl.
Stanley ran across the Utah formation in motion before the snap and was never checked by a Southern Utah defender. He was wide open up the numbers for the easy pitch and catch touchdown.
Rising wasn’t finished there, and scored his second touchdown of the first quarter on a 29-yard strike to his tight end Brant Keuithe, who also missed all of last season recovering from a knee injury and enters his seventh college football season in 2024.

Rising and Keuithe connected once again early in the second quarter, this time on an 18-yard strike to give Utah a three-score lead early.

The veteran Utes quarterback suffered a significant knee injury against Penn State in the 2022 Rose Bowl. He tore his ACL, MCL, meniscus and MPFL and was forced to sit out for the entire 2023 season while he recovered.
Rising is one of the oldest players in college football, originally being a member of the 2018 recruiting class. He transferred to Utah from Texas ahead of the 2020 season but did not become the full-time starter until the year after. Before his injury, Rising has dbeen one of the more consistent quarterbacks in college football.
Rising has played in 27 games, where he has totaled over 700 pass attempts. He threw for over 3,000 yards in 2022 before his injury in the final game of the season. He’s thrown for over 5,500 yards in his career to go with a strong touchdown to interception ratio, throwing for 46 scores and turning the ball over just 14 times.
Getting Utah off to a strong start will likely do wonders to Rising’s confidence now that he’s back and completely healthy.
