4-star Cam Scott updates recruitment, dives into official visits, and plans
Cam Scott raised a couple of spots to No. 19 in the updated 2024 On3 150. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard, who is leading his Nike EYBL Circuit team – Team United – in scoring and rebounding, recently earned the co-MVP honors of the prestigious Pangos All-American Camp.
“I wanted to go to a different area of the country and showcase my talent in a big environment,” Scott told On3. “To be able to go out there and put on a performance like I did put me in a good position. It was good to see all the talent; there were players from Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour and all ages. To walk away with the MVP was special.”
Also, in June, Scott was invited to the USA Basketball u19 Training Camp. A Camp that saw 30 hand-selected players compete for a final 12-man roster to represent the United States in the FIBA games. The team comprised of players who were rising college sophomores, rising college freshmen, and rising high school seniors. Scott was one of only six rising high school seniors to make the 18-man cut.
“It was a great experience out there,” Scott said. “I was out there against a lot of college freshmen and rising college freshmen with a lot of good coaches. I wanted to go out there and get some good work in. Making the first cut showcased all the work I have been putting in and that I am at that level.”
On3 caught up with four-star Cam Scott after a recent live viewing to get an update on his recruitment.
Scott talks Oregon
Cam Scott has taken four official visits. He visited Texas, Auburn, and South Carolina previously. His most recent was to Oregon earlier this month.
“I feel like they have a lot of different things that a lot of other places just don’t have,” Scott said. “I have a good relationship now with Coach (Dana) Altman through Coach Chuck (Martin). I’ve got a really strong relationship with Coach Chuck, who was previously at South Carolina. I made that trip out to Oregon, and knowing Coach Chuck made that trip easier. Coach Altman getting to lay eyes on me and interact with me on a personal level was good.
“The trip was far like it was a long distance, but that didn’t really matter to me. I mean, while you’re there, you’re there, so that was cool.”
Scott talks official visits
“I took early visits to Texas, Auburn, and South Carolina,” Scott said. “They are all three absolutely still involved in my recruitment. My family and I have talked about revisiting those schools. However, there is only a certain amount of free time I have between now and when I commit, we are trying to see when and if we can fit anything in.”
Auburn: “Since the visit, I’ve been able to build my connection with the players. I already had a connection with the coaches and Coach (Bruce) Pearl when I went on the visit. Now I’m just building with some of the guys who are already there.”
South Carolina: “I’m talking with them on a daily basis, getting to know everyone on a personal level and not just a basketball level.”

Texas: “Coach (Rodney) Terry was one of the coaches I felt really comfortable with on my official visit. He was an honest coach, so I felt like we had that bond. Some of the coaching staff is still there, and some of the players are still there, so I feel like it is a lot of the same there.”
Scott talks recruitment
“I’ve got a visit scheduled to Ole Miss on September 30,” Scott said. “We’re in the process of planning an Alabama visit soon too. Southern California recently offered as well, and they are talking about a visit. We are trying to see if we can fit one in with the time frame.”
Ole Miss: “Being recruited by multiple coaches there, at their previous schools before Ole Miss, I feel like it could be something special for me. I want to go in there and see how they put all that together and what they are working on for that program to look like. I built a relationship with Chris Beard while he was at Texas and Wes Flanigan when he was at Auburn.”
Alabama: “I like their play style and how Coach (Nate) Oats likes to run his team. I feel like that could be a perfect situation for me. I feel like it’s a good spot where I could get better and get me prepared for the next level after college. Watching them play this season, I feel like I can shoot the ball pretty well. They like their longer wings and bigger guards, and they play the floor very spaced out. They tell me that with my athleticism and my shooting ability, I would be a great fit there.”
USC: “For me, I’m intrigued with what they got going on. They have a big recruiting class coming in, a lot of big names, and good players. I want to see what it was about Southern California, the program, that got them to go out there.”
In his words
“I don’t have a top group, and I probably won’t narrow my recruitment down at all before I pick a school,” Cam Scott said. “I don’t have an exact date yet, but I’d like to commit before school ball starts. Sometime between Peach Jam and school ball starting.
“I want to go somewhere I can just zone out and get better. For me, player development is going to be big. I’ll be going into an entirely different playing field, so being able to just focus on myself and get better. I can see myself playing in most any system, I’m going to pick a school where I can best showcase my talent and feel comfortable.”
