After a Peach Bowl for the ages, Cam Skattebo and Arch Manning shared a special moment. The Texas quarterback sought out the Arizona State star for a postgame handshake amid the Longhorns’ celebration after clinching a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Skattebo had another memorable performance to help propel Arizona State’s comeback attempt. He did it all, from leading the rushing attack to playing a key role in the receiving game and even throwing for a touchdown.

Afterward, Manning made sure to find him for a handshake. It was a moment of respect between the two stars – one who will now get ready for the NFL Draft and another who’s waiting in the wings while looking to play a role in the CFP semifinals.

Skattebo put on a show on the big stage on Wednesday. He not only totaled 143 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, but he also hauled in eight receptions for a team-high 99 yards and threw a 42-yard touchdown pass. It was quite the performance from the Arizona State star, who continued to captivate fans amid the Sun Devils’ run to the College Football Playoff.

“He’s a special player,” Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham said in the postgame press conference. “I mean, he’s somebody – I mean, yeah, it’s just Cam. It’s exactly what I expected, bottom line. You give him the ball, crazy things happen. They saw a man earlier in the game, he runs to the side, I gotta win a go bomb. I was like I agree, and we found a way to get him the go ball, and he makes the play. And that’s just Cam.”

For Cam Skattebo, the next step will be the NFL. He’ll head to the league after a breakout season at Arizona State with 1,568 rushing yards and a program record 29 rushing touchdowns. That’s in addition to his 506 receiving yards and three touchdowns – and, of course, his third career passing touchdown.

But as he gets ready for his next chapter, Skattebo pointed out the upward trajectory for Arizona State. He specifically pointed to the newly extended Dillingham, who will continue to build the program from here.

“Coach Dillingham has got the longest future in coach history, I promise,” Skattebo said. “And then this kid next to me [quarterback Sam Leavitt] he’s going to play on Sundays. I’m going to play on Sundays. So us three right here, we got a long life ahead of us.

“This is just the beginning for us. No matter what, these guys will be in my life forever. So it’s awesome that I was able to play football for and with them. And I’m just happy to be in the position I am, and for him to put me in a role to be successful, and then Sam executing to help me be successful. Just hats off to those guys, and I love those guys forever.”
