Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo put on a record-setting performance against the Texas Longhorns in the Peach Bowl, the Quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. There was a fan online who posted a tweet about Skattebo being out late on New Year’s Eve before the game. And that didn’t sit well with Skattebo and ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham, who both fired back at the fan on Twitter.

First, there’s Skattebo.

“Dudes a clown, that was at 830 pm and I was with family. Yes they were drinking alcohol, and if you knew anything about me you know I don’t drink. But I’m sure you posted this because you couldn’t get a picture or autograph. Man some people just want the clout and it’s sickening,” Skattebo wrote on his official Twitter account.

Then on Thursday evening, Kenny Dillingham also decided to jump in.

“Cam missed 0 bed checks or meetings in his career. Also had 0 off the field issues! The only issue I ever had was him not coming into the locker room after games bc he was signing autographs for kids on the field after the game. And I feel like that’s a good reason,” Dillingham tweeted. He deleted the tweet sometime later on Thursday night.

Cameron Skattebo cemented his legacy in ASU football history

Skattebo shattered the single-season rushing touchdown mark for Arizona State, the single-season total touchdown mark, and single-season rushing yards record. Skattebo forever cemented himself in Arizona State history as one of the best players ever to suit up at the school.

He had a breakout season in 2024, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns in 13 games for ASU. In the Peach Bowl, Skattebo rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, caught eight passes for 99 yards and threw a touchdown pass.

But where will Skattebo land in the 2025 NFL Draft? In December, ESPN’s Matt Miller and Jordan Reid said they saw Skattebo as a Day 3 pick. “At 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds, he’s a punishing runner, and he has added 35 receptions for 468 yards and two scores,” Miller and Reid wrote. “NFL scouts are excited about his potential as a power back — he’s similar to the Atlanta Falcons’ Tyler Allgeier — and see Skattebo as a mid-Day 3 prospect.”
