With a talented offense, led by transfer quarterback Cam Ward, the Miami Hurricanes have gotten off to a quick 2-0 start. With that, there are expectations that Miami could compete for the ACC Championship and the College Football Playoff.

Despite that success, Ward recently shared that he doesn’t think the Hurricanes are playing close to their best football yet.

“No. We’re not even close to playing our best football,” Cam Ward said. “If you go back and really watch the tape from the first game, I would say there was a minimum of ten bad plays just from a quarterback and receiver standpoint. And from this last game, the biggest takeaways were the fourth downs, and that was us just not doing little things. So, that’s something we have to clean up.”

In the opening game of the season, Miami beat Florida by a score of 41-17 on the road. Then the Hurricanes returned home to take care of business against Florida A&M.

Now, Cam Ward says that it’s important for Miami to clean up those little mistakes. Once those get cleaned up, the Hurricanes will be able to start playing to their full potential.

“You say you want to win games but if we don’t clean up the little stuff now it can hurt us in the back end. So, we’re getting better at that,” Ward said. “We’re getting better this week working on different situations. Working the right concepts. We’re gonna continue to chop wood at it and just keep playing ball.”

The Hurricanes have two more non-conference games before the ACC schedule begins for Miami. That means there’s two more chances to iron out those issues before getting into the games that matter the most as it relates to making a run to the Playoff.

Miami QB Cam Ward on critics saying he holds ball too long

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward has occasionally been criticized for holding the ball too long. However, he pushed back on that criticism.

“They don’t watch film. A lot of people don’t watch film, they just go watch highlights. It’s the difference [between] getting on YouTube and watching a play and then actually going on XOs and clicking rewind and watching the whole play,” Ward said.

“So I really don’t worry about that, because the only thing that matters to us as a team and myself is the people in this building. So everybody has their own opinion. I have mine. I mean, I play football, I don’t watch football. So I watch enough football, I watch enough tape to know, whether it’s our team or another team, what happened on the play. I also know what could have happened and should have happened on the play.”
