Cam Ward, a four-star small forward in the 2025 class, has cut his list to 10 schools: Alabama, Florida State, Kansas State, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and Virginia.

To this point, the 6-foot-6 rising senior out of Largo High (MD) has taken official visits to Notre Dame, Marquette, and Florida State. Maryland has hosted him unofficially.

Ward, On3’s No. 44 overall ranked prospect, has four upcoming official visits:

  • Kansas State: September 13
  • Maryland: September 21
  • Michigan State: September 28
  • Alabama: October 12

Ward discussed each of the four schools he’s planning to visit in the coming months.

Ward talks K-State, Maryland, Michigan State, and Alabama

Kansas State: “I love Kansas State. They have an all-black coaching staff and that speaks out to me so much. They been so consistent with everything and just a great program with Coach Tang.”

Maryland: “Hometown team, of course they were going to make it (the top schools). Love what they’re trying to become and at the end of the day, I love the staff and just how they embrace me.”

Michigan State: “How do you say no to Tom Izzo? That guy is a legend and I see everything that they want to do with me as far as get me to the league and be a part of a family.”

Alabama: “They are new to the mix. I love the culture and their a winning program. I like their style of play, really fast-paced and can’t wait to learn more about them!”

Ward on Notre Dame and Florida State

In a previous interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw, Ward discussed both the Fighting Irish and the Seminoles.

NOTRE DAME: “They’re very family-oriented with Coach (Micah) Shrewsberry. He is my guy, he watched me all through the live period. He’s just trying to build the program, get his guys to build. They have some good incoming freshmen coming in and they have a lot returning from last year. So I am looking forward to seeing them this year and what he is able to create.

“Our relationship continues to grow. They text me almost once a week, and they call me a lot to. They’ve come to my high school at least four times. Coach Shrewsberry has been recruiting me since he was at Penn State, so it has been an ongoing relationship for a couple of years now.”

FLORIDA STATE: “Leonard Hamilton can coach his tail off. Coach Ham, that is my guy, he can coach like crazy. He gets a lot of guys into the league, a lot of guys like me. Tall wings who are athletic and lanky, he gets them into the league. That is the main thing that I took from the visit.

Scouting Report

“Cam Ward has a great frame with good length and athleticism. The best part of his game might be his nose for production. Ward finds his way on the boards and is very opportune in finding scoring opportunities. Ware is at his best playing downhill toward the rim. He stretches his legs in transition and can finish above the rim in traffic. Would like to see him continue to develop more off the bounce, especially counters when his straight line path is cut off, and more consistency with the jump shot. Ward is a physical defender able to guard either forward position. He has produced, consistently, at each level.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
