Carl Pelini turns himself in after arrest warrant was issued on Monday
After an arrest warrant was issued on Monday for longtime college football coach Carl Pelini, he turned himself in on Tuesday, according to Mahoning Matters.
“Cardinal Mooney football coach Carl Pelini turned himself in following a violent altercation with his wife over the weekend, Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth confirmed,” Mahoning Matters said. “According to court records, Pelini appeared in court this morning and plead not guilty to charges of misdemeanor domestic violence. He posted his $2,500 bond.”
Pelini’s wife reported a domestic violence incident at the couple’s home on Sunday morning. The two reportedly got into a physical altercation at their home in Boardman, and Carl Pelini then left the home. Police found Pelini’s wife with a black eye and blood on the kitchen floor, resulting in her being taken to the hospital.
Pelini just began his second year at Cardinal Mooney high school in Youngstown, Ohio. He has now been placed on administrative leave. Pelini is the younger brother of former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini.

Carl Pelini’s coaching history
Carl Pelini began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kansas City and Nebraska. In 2004, he became Minnesota State University’s defensive coordinator. After one year, Pelini went to Ohio University and became the Bobcats’ defensive line coach for three seasons.
When Bo Pelini took over as Nebraska’s head coach in 2007, Carl was added to the staff as defensive coordinator. In 2011, Pelini was hired to become Florida Atlantic’s head coach. He only coached two seasons there before he resigned due to reported illegal drug use. The Owls went 5-15 and won just three conference games in his two-year stint.
Pelini returned to college football in 2015, again joining his brother’s staff, now a Youngstown State. He stayed at Youngstown State until 2018 when he joined the Bowling Green coaching staff. Pelini was eventually named interim head coach at Bowling Green when mike Jinks was fired. He then spent one more season at Youngstown State in 2019 before heading to Cardinal Mooney high school when Bo Pelini was hired as LSU’s defensive coordinator.
