Carl Cherenfant burst on the scene early in his high school career with his strong frame and athletic explosion. Last season the 6-foot-4 wing averaged 12 points and 3.5 rebounds per game en route to a state championship.

Cherenfant is the No. 124 player in the On3 2023 150. He took junior year official visits to Kansas State, Memphis, and St. John’s. The Fort Lauderdale (FL) Calvary Christian wing took two senior year official visits to South Forida and Central Florida.

The four-star has announced he will make his college decisions on Sunday October 23 at 6:00 PM. Cherenfant’s final three schools are St. John’s, Memphis, and Central Florida.

With a commitment date set, let’s do a full breakdown of Carl Cherenfant’s game.

Cherenfant’s explosion

Carl Cherenfant is a strong and physically explosive wing. He has long arms and broad shoulders with 200 pounds of muscle. The four-star wing plays a physical brand of basketball. He attacks the basket hard in transition, filling the lanes with a purpose and becoming a threat to get on the rim in transition.

Offensively, you want to see the jump shot become more consistent. The release is inconsistent coming out of his hand and his balance inconsistent off the bounce and off movement. Cherenfant attacks the paint in straight lines in the half court. He can be an effective off ball cutter, especailly when cutting off paint touches looking for lobs.

Cherenfant attacks the rim with a purpose, but he lacks counters off the bounce if his path to the rim is cut off. There is a toughness factor to his game that helps him produce positive plays.

On the defensive end

Carl Cherenfant has a lot of upside on this end of the floor. His phyiscally tools and athletic explosion can be put to good use on defense. Cherenfant has the quick-twitch athleticism to guard the ball on the perimeter. At 6-foot-4, he has the length and strong frame to guard down a lineup, staying with some fours on the block. He also has the explosive athleticism to jump passing lanes and turn defense into offense.

As with most high school kids, Cherenfant will need to continue learning the footwork, rotations, and angles on that end of the floor. But when it comes to that athletic gifts and the toughness necessary, Cherenfant carries that upside.

In Cherenfant’s words

“I’ll be looking for a family-oriented system where I can fit in,” Cherenfant told On3. “A school that will put me in the best position to succeed and put me in a position to help the team succeed and win. I will be looking at how they set me up for the next level after college.”
