Carson Ohland was the No. 27-ranked catcher prospect in the country, according to Perfect Game, and the No. 2-rated prospect in the state of Washington. He will have three years of eligibility remaining after entering the portal.
Washington struggled in 2024 during its final year in the Pac-12, finishing with a 19-31-1 overall record. The Huskies then found themselves dealing with a coaching search after Jason Kelly left to become the top assistant at Texas A&M under Michael Earley. That could be nearing a resolution, though.
Washington is expected to hire Eddie Smith away from Utah Valley as its new head coach, according to D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers. He led Utah Valley to a 29-29 record in 2024, after the Wolverines went 34-24 in 2023. Prior to Smith’s arrival, Utah Valley was 10-47.

Smith previously spent time been an assistant at several schools, including LSU, Notre Dame and Virginia. Now, he’ll get his shot in Seattle as he tries to rebuild Washington after a rough go in 2024.
Washington SS Lou Fujiwara also entered the portal
Shortstop Lou Fujiwara also entered the portal Tuesday, On3 has learned. He spent this past season with the Huskies and appeared in just three games.
Fujiwara did not get an at-bat in any of the games in which he appeared. However, he was as good as he could have been defensively in those limited opportunities, with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
In the summer of 2024, Fujiwara has been playing in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League for the Lima Locos in Ohio. There, he’s played in 15 games and has 68 at-bats. He’s hitting .276 there with a .368 OBP and a .293 slugging percentage. He also has four RBIs and two stolen bases.
