After missing the start of the season for Louisville, Caullin Lacy will be a game-time decision this weekend in South Bend according to Jeff Brohm.

Brohm updated Lacy’s status during his press conference on Monday. The Cardinals will be doing what they can to potentially have him ready for kickoff on Saturday in the Top-20 matchup against No. 16 Notre Dame.

“Caullin – we’re going to continue to try to get ready,” said Brohm. “It’ll be a game-time deal.”

Lacy broke his collarbone over fall camp with the Cards. That set a reported timetable for him around six to eight weeks at the time. This would be almost to or around to the six-week mark in his recovery.

Lacy was the top-rated additions in the transfer portal for Louisville. He was the No. 4 WR and No. 37 overall player in On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players this offseason. That was from being a 2,500-plus yard receiver over a four-year career at South Alabama as he caught 207 passes for 13 touchdowns. That included his last season with the Jaguars where he was one of the nation’s leading receivers with 91 receptions for 1,316 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Over the three games for the Cardinals, Ja’Corey Brooks, another transfer from Alabama, has been the top target in the pass game. He has caught 17 passes for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chris Bell and Jadon Thompson have also produced with a dozen catches combined for 255 yards in total and two touchdowns apiece.

Those lead an offense, led by Tyler Shough, that’s throwing for 308 yards as part of 502.3 overall on average as they’re scoring 47.3 ppg..

Lacy would be a plus if he was able to return to play the Fighting Irish. Brohm just isn’t certain that he will yet to start this week.

“I do not know yet whether that’ll take place or not but we will do our best,” Brohm said.
