One of the premier games in the Big Ten will air on CBS this fall. The annual Penn State “white Out” game will be shown on CBS and Paramount+, it was announced Monday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions will host Iowa in the “white out” game on Sept. 23. The game will kick off at 8 p.m.

CBS is entering its first season broadcasting Big Ten football. In 2023, the network will broadcast seven Big Ten games throughout the year during various time slots.

Beginning in 2024, CBS will broadcast a top Big Ten game every week during the 3:30 p.m. time slot on Saturdays.

The Penn State “white out” game takes place yearly and features all Nittany Lions fans wearing white in the stadium. In last year’s white out matchup, Penn State blasted Minnesota 45-17. The previous year, the Nittany Lions beat Auburn 28-20.

Penn State is coming off of an 11-2 season and a Rose Bowl win over Utah. Head coach James Franklin is entering his 10th season in charge of the program. There are high expectations for the Nittany Lions in 2023 after an impressive 2022 campaign.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are coming off of an 8-5 season, which included a 21-0 shutout of Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl. Kirk Ferentz is entering his 25th season at Iowa. The Hawkeyes have won at least 10 games seven times under Ferentz, including as recently as 2021.

Iowa could reach double digit wins again in 2023 if its offense can improve after a tough season in 2022.

The Iowa-Penn State white out game could be critical to the Big Ten race.

Greg McElroy says Penn State white out was a bucket list item for him

The Penn State white out game yearly features one of the best scenes in college football.

ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy recently explained on his show Always College Football why the white out game was a bucket list item for him. McElroy finally got to take in the game last year.

“Kirk Herbstreit has famously called it the best student section in the country. That was during the 2005 game between Ohio State and Penn State. … And Urban Meyer said it was the craziest atmosphere and that atmosphere alone was worth 10 points,” McElroy said. “Now, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the white out game last year for the very first time. They played Minnesota. It got sideways. I think it would have been maybe even a little more chaotic had they played against Ohio State, but I digress. Still, an amazing atmosphere and a bucket list activity for me to not only get to Penn State for a game but to be a part of the white out was one I will always be appreciative of, knowing that I’ve checked that off my bucket list.”
