The college basketball season officially tipped off this week, and many of the top teams have seen the court for the first time. As things get rolling, CBS Sports ranked the Top 25 and 1 coaches for the 2022-23 season.
Kansas coach Bill Self tops the list after leading the Jayhawks to a national championship last season, the program’s second under his watch. Gonzaga headman Mark Few came in at No. 2 while Baylor coach Scott Drew rounded out the top three.

North Carolina came in at No. 1 in the preseason AP Top 25, but Hubert Davis appeared at No. 19 on CBS Sports’ rankings. The Tar Heels bring back almost every piece from last year’s Cinderella run to the national championship, only losing Brady Manek from the starting lineup. But Davis hit the transfer portal and landed Northwestern transfer Pete Nance to help fill that void with a veteran presence.

There are a few notable absences after some high-profile retirements following the 2021-22 campaign. Former Villanova head coach Jay Wright and Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski almost assuredly would have been on the list this year, but they both retired after last season. Wright’s Wildcats advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament and Krzyzewski’s Blue Devils advanced to the Final Four where they fell to rival North Carolina in New Orleans.
