Michigan is set to get a rising defensive back from the Lone Star State up to Ann Arbor for an official visit this summer.

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland reported on Saturday that Houston North Shore four-star safety Chace Calicut is set to take an OV with the Wolverines on June 20.

Getting Calicut on campus for an official will be a big step in U-M’s efforts to beat out the likes of in-state Texas and Texas A&M, both of which have already been mentioned as top contenders for his pledge. When speaking with On3’s Chad Simmons last month, however, Calicut did tab the Wolverines as a program that’s piqued his interest.

“I really like Michigan’s mentality and the type of program they run. Michigan puts guys into the NFL too,” Calicut said.

Calicut is the No. 217 overall prospect and No. 18 safety in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 26 player in Texas.

“I will go where it feels like home,” Calicut added. “It matters who the staff is, how they coach and how I fit into the program.”

Michigan signed impressive DB haul last cycle

While the signing of Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Bryce Underwood was the highlight of the 2025 cycle for head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff, Michigan also put together an elite group of defensive back prospects that are now headed to Ann Arbor.

Five blue-chip DBs inked with U-M back in December: Montgomery Village (Md.) Gonzaga four-star safety Kainoa Winston, Detroit Belleville four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson, Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale four-star CB Shamari Earls, Monroe (N.C.) four-star safety Jordan Young and Kilgore (Texas) four-star CB Jayden Sanders.

Winston, Dotson and Earls are all top-100 prospects, while Young and Sanders both check in as top-200 signees. Michigan’s 2026 class already features a blue-chip corner, too, as Jacksonville Mandarin four-star CB Brody Jennings has been in the mix since July 28.

Jennings is one of two commits for U-M to date in the class, alongside Southlake (Texas) Parish Episcopal three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile.
