Deion Sanders and Chad Johnson traded barbs during a conversation about Travis Hunter‘s coverage ability.

Johnson, who’s requested to join the Colorado staff before, would love to be a show don’t tell type of coach, especially with a player like Hunter. Of course, there’d be plenty of trash talk.

Sanders joined Night Cap with Shannon Sharpe and Johnson and of course, the show went off the rails.

“The kind of teacher I am, I don’t do it with words. I’ll put the cleats on and actually show,” Johnson said. “I come out there, route Travis’ ass out there and then lock him up.”

“What if I get mad that you routed Travis up and i put my cleats on,” Sanders asked.

“You can’t do nothing with 8 toes now,” Johnson clapped back.

“See what I’m saying, I knew you was going to say that,” Sanders said. “I set you up for that. I didn’t think you was going to take the bait. Y’all ain’t no good. You know what? Bye. I’m going. Bye.”

During the exchange, Sharpe couldn’t help but laugh hysterically. Sanders has had to have toes amputated due to a medical condition.

Due to blood clots, Sanders underwent multiple foot surgeries in 2021 and had two toes removed from his left foot. Johnson couldn’t help himself in a joking manner of course.

Whether Johnson can beat Hunter in a one-on-one on either side of the ball, well, that’ll have to be left up for interpretation. But the two-way star could very well be the Heisman front runner.

A 4-1 this season, Colorado already equaled last season’s win total so there seems to be significant improvement. Not only that, Hunter is playing at a higher level than 2023 on both sides of the ball.

“He’s so much fun to watch,” ESPN’s Sam Acho told On3. “I think he can win it this year. And I would say he probably is the front runner. Travis Hunter is doing it on both sides of the ball. He plays offense, he plays defense, got an interception last week, scored a touchdown. That’s what he does. And so if there’s anyone who could win the Heisman as a two way player, as a defensive star? It’s Travis Hunter.”

Does Colorado have to compete for trophies for Hunter to win the Heisman? That might be the case in the voter’s eyes.

“Let’s say Colorado competes for a Big 12 championship game, he’s the reason why,” Acho said. “But I think there’s definitely an opportunity between him, between Jalen Milroe. I’m not sure what else I’m missing right now, but those are the two first names that come to mind when I talk about Heisman right now.”
