4-Star PG Chance Mallory dives into his recruitment, talks visits

Chance Mallory is the No. 80 player in the 2025 On3 150. The 5-foot-10 point guard at Charlottesville (VA) St. Anne’s Belfield School has started the season off strong averaging 24.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game from Mallory. He is also shooting 40.7 percent from three on 6.8 attempts.
“I try to play for my team, and make the right play,” Mallory told On3. “I’m getting to my shot off the bounce better this season. I’m penetrating the lane and making a play, whether it’s a shot or kicking to my teammates.”
On3 caught up with four-star Chance Mallory after a live viewing at the Good Guys vs. Cancer event to talk recruitment.
“I haven’t taken any official visits yet, and I haven’t set any up yet either,” Mallory said. “I have taken some unofficial visits though, to Virginia, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Maryland.”
Mallory Talks Visits
Virginia: “I’ve been around the basketball there since I was little, so when I went on my visit it was really to learn more about the school part and how their academics work. It’s very family-like for me there. I’m good friends with Eli (head coach Tony Bennett’s son) and Austin (Associate head coach Jason Williford’s son), so I’ve just been around their families a lot.”
Virginia Tech: “They text me as much as they can. I have a great relationship with Coach (JD) Byers, and we talk a lot. They fit my play style almost perfectly. They run, they shoot, they screen, and they play defense.”

Clemson: “I learned how family-oriented their program is and how hard they work when I went to their practices. I feel like I can bring the defense that they stress and I like how they play team ball, move it around to get the best shot.”
Maryland: “They are always in contact with me. I’ve been up there twice for unofficials so far, so I have gotten to know their coaching staff pretty well. They always tell me they like how gritty I am on the court and how I can create and play defense.”
“I don’t really talk to many schools that haven’t offered me right now,” Mallory said.
Mallory Talks Recruitment
“I’m looking to start going on visits sometime toward the end of this basketball season and into next fall,” Mallory said. “I haven’t really thought about any of the schools yet that I definitely want to visit, but I do want to be committed somewhere by next October.
“I like family, so I want to go to a program that is family-oriented and has a family atmosphere. No bad blood in the locker room. I want to play in a play style that fits me too. I’m a point guard who likes to run fast, get in transition, make shots, and make plays with the ball in my hand.”
