Fast-rising PG Chance Mallory talks Maryland, Virginia Tech, and VCU
Chance Mallory averaged 24.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists throughout both DMV Live June scholastic sessions. The 5-foot-10 Charlottesville (VA) St. Anne’s Belfield 2025 point guard shot 40 percent from three on 40 attempts.
“I try to get my teammates involved and be a pest on-ball defender,” Mallory told On3. “Rebounding is big for me, and being able to score when the opportunity presents itself. I’m touching the paint and playing off two a lot more now, it’s opened up my game some, especially around the rim. I watched a lot of Markquis Nowell this year. He’s shown me that by playing hard nd with confidence, good things happen.”
On3 talked with Chance Mallory after a recent live viewing to get an update on his recruitment.
Mallory talks recruiting
“I’d say I’m hearing from VCU, Virginia Tech, and Maryland the most right now,” Mallory said. “I’ll probably look at setting visits to those three schools here soon.”
Virginia Tech: “I’m looking to set a visit with them soon. They’ve shown a lot of interest in me, they have come to visit me at my school. They’ve shown that they want me there. They play similarly to how I play. They push the pace, shoot a lot of threes, and play defense. I feel like I would fit in really well with how they play.”
Maryland: “They produce high-level guards, I know that. They have a lot of them who have come through there, and they had a bunch of them who just came. So I like how they develop their guards. They like my on-ball defending and how I can get my teammates open and make shots.”

VCU: “I don’t know too much about the new staff over there, but I’ve been talking with them a lot. It’s like a family over there, so there is a big family aspect over there that is pretty cool. They like how I can control the pace of the game with the ball and attack the paint. They also like that I can knock down shots.”
In his words
“The family aspect will be big for me,” Mallory said. “I want to go to a program that is close together. I’ll look at how the schools express how they want me. I want to go somewhere I know that I’m wanted. I like to play fast. That plays to my strengths as a player. Playing fast and making reads and decisions with freedom.
“Living in Charlottesville, I grew up watching Virignia, and they’ve been in contact. I grew up a fan of UCLA. I had one sister who played lacrosse at Howard, and my other sister played soccer in college.”
