2025 EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro no longer signed with SMU
Los Angeles King Drew three-star EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro is no longer signed with SMU, according to On3’s Billy Embody.
The Golden State prospect has been granted his release and is now free to sign elsewhere. He inked with the ACC program last month after originally committing on July 1.
Onyeagoro is the No. 516 overall prospect and No. 48 EDGE in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 40 player in California.
The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pounder was one of three EDGE and defensive lineman signees in the 2025 class for head coach Rhett Lashlee. He committed to SMU over Florida, Georgia, UCLA and Washington.
“One of the main reasons why I picked SMU is because of the development,” Onyeagoro told On3. “The coaches do a good job of that. They helped SMU go from ranked at the bottom in sacks per game to No. 2 in sacks per game in the country the next year. I think if you want to get developed as a defensive player, SMU is the place.”

SMU loses piece to 2025 recruiting class
With Onyeagoro no longer in the mix, SMU’s 2025 class now features 24 signees and ranks No. 31 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Five blue-chip recruits are set to head to Dallas, including San Antonio native and IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star quarterback Ty Hawkins. The 6-foot signal-caller flipped to the Mustangs from TCU back in July and is the nation’s No. 17 QB.
Sitting atop the class is Houston Lamar four-star offensive tackle Dramodd Odoms, the No. 143 overall prospect and No. 13 OT in the cycle. Other top signees in the class include: Cibolo (Texas) Steele four-star wide receiver Jalen Cooper, DeSoto (Texas) four-star WR Daylon Singleton, Conroe (Texas) On300 running back Dramecko Green and Arlington (Texas) Seguin three-star WR Carterrious Brown.
