Kentucky running back Chip Trayanum has been cleared to play against Ole Miss, Wildcats coach Mark Stoops announced on his radio show Monday night.

A former four-star recruit, Chip Trayanum was ranked as the No. 28 running back in the country in the class of 2020, per the On3 Industry rankings.

He was expected to be the starting running back for the Wildcats in 2024, but he missed the first four games of the season while dealing with a hand injury.

Finally it appears that Kentucky fans will get to see what Chip Trayanum is capable of against one of the top teams in the SEC.

While Trayanum transferred to Kentucky from Ohio State, he actually started his career at Arizona State. He rushed for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns across two seasons with the Sun Devils, before transferring to play for the Buckeyes.

His best season at Arizona State came in 2021 when he had 78 carries for 402 yards and six touchdowns.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Chip Trayanum transferred to Ohio State. He spent two seasons with the Buckeyes, appearing in 23 games. The Ohio native was the second-leading rusher for OSU last year with 373 yards, while averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

Kentucky is coming off a 41-6 win against the Ohio Bobcats. Meanwhile, Ole Miss took care of Georgia Southern 52-13 last weekend.

Getting Trayanum cleared is huge news for a Kentucky team that regularly relies on its ground game for offensive production.

It’s specifically so this season too with the team’s depth and ceiling at that position not being what it has been in years past with names like Benny SnellChris Rodriguez, and Ray Davis.

Trayanum came to Kentucky as the No. 12 RB and at No. 149 overall per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players. That made him the third-highest rated addition this offseason for Kentucky after LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson (No. 32, No. 1 LB) and QB Brock Vandagriff (No. 34, No. 8 QB).

In his career as a Sun Devil and Buckeye, Trayanum has rushed 227 times for 1,156 yards and 13 touchdowns. 100 carries for 373 yards and three scores came over his past two seasons in Columbus. He has finished top-five in rushing on each of his four teams, including in first as a freshman and then in second last year.
