4-star CB Chris Johnson announces top six schools
Aledo (Texas) four-star cornerback Chris Johnson announced his top six schools on Saturday. They are Oregon, Utah, Louisville, SMU, Arkansas and Arizona State.
Johnson is the No. 358 overall prospect and No. 37 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 59 player in Texas.
On3 rates Johnson higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 285 overall prospect, No. 29 cornerback and No. 54 player in Texas.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back is announcing his commitment on July 4, per Billy Embody of On The Pony Express. He has already scheduled official visits to Arizona State (June 9) and Arkansas (June 16).
“I definitely like Arizona State,” Johnson told Embody. “Coach BC (Bryan Carrington), I’ve created a great relationship with him. Arkansas is really cool. Coach (Deron) Wilson, coach (Marcus) Woodson, I have a good relationship with them. I’ve been talking to Oregon a lot. Louisville is always going to be in the running because it’s my dad’s alma mater, so that’s really cool.”
Johnson goes in depth on his upcoming decision
Johnson received an offer from SMU on April 14. The four-star shared with Embody that he is hoping to return to the Mustangs soon.

“First one from Texas,” Johnson said of his SMU offer. “Felt good. Felt like I was getting looks from everywhere else but my home state, so to know a college from Texas is looking at me, it felt good. (Rickey Hunley Jr.) said he liked my length and upside. Being one of the youngest, still being out there making plays and only 16, he likes my upside and potential.”
The Lone Star State native has visited four of his finalists this spring. They are SMU (April 14), Louisville (April 10), Arizona State (March 16) and Arkansas (March 4).
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, it is a close race between Arkansas (42.0%) and Arizona State (36.7%) for Johnson’s commitment. He already knows what will matter in his decision.
“More of a home instead of just a team because my dad always says, ‘One play, your season or career can be over. You’re just a normal guy again,'” Johnson said. “Can that school provide for me and get me to the finish line? It’s definitely cool hearing all his stories. Someone that’s already been there, done that. (I) take a lot of his advice and just run with it.”
