Chris Olave and OSU receivers set to shine in 2021 per Phil Steele
There are an endless amount of talented receivers across the college football landscape year in, year out. This year is no different. Elite receivers will be all over the country from the banks of the Olentangy (Ohio State) all the way to Kyle Field, home of the Texas A&M Aggies.
Today, we’ll take a look at the nation’s top 10 receiver units in college football, according to Phil Steele. What pass catchers are set to get their shine on in 2021? Let’s get into it!
10. Nevada Wolfpack
Nevada surprises college football fans by being on this list, but their head coach Jay Norvell has long been one of the best wide receiver coaches in all of college football. Simply put, there is nobody better at coaching the position. And, the Wolfpack return their top six wide receivers from 2020.
Plus, Elijah Cooks returns from injury in 2020. He led the Wolfpack in receiving yards in 2019 with 926 yards while junior Romeo Doubs hauled in over 1,000 receiving yards in 2020 for the ‘Pack. Those are a few of the big receivers to keep an eye on.
9. Texas Longhorns
Freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy is already drawing comparisons to Jerry Jeudy in team practices. He should be an instant superstar for the ‘Horns. The Fresno, California (Central East HS) native earned a five-star rating for the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to On3.com.
He’s a huge reason why Texas’ receivers will be among the nation’s best in 2021.
8. Iowa State Cyclones
Tight ends are pass catchers, too. So, it only makes sense that we mention tight ends Charlie Kolar and Chase Allen in this space. Kolar was named a second-team All-American in 2020 while Allen was named second-team All-Big 12. The Cyclones have the best trio of tight ends in the nation. In 2020, their tight end group combined for 82 catches (1st in the nation) and 1,057 receiving yards (2nd in the country).
They are huge reasons ISU has some of the best receivers in college football.
7. Miami Hurricanes
Tight end Will Mallory is one of the best receivers on this roster, and in 2020, he hauled in 22 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns. The ‘Canes also bring wide receiver Charleston Rambo over from Oklahoma. These two are big reasons why the ‘Canes have some of the best receivers in college football.
6. USC Trojans
This figures to be the year where former five-star athlete Bru McCoy has a breakout season for the Trojans. He was the ninth-rated overall prospect in America coming out of high school, according to 247sports.com. Drake London is yet another star in this group of receivers that has NFL potential.

5. Texas A&M Aggies
Jalen Wydermyer is one of the best tight-end prospects in America and was named a pre-season second-team All-American by a few publications. The Aggies were young last season but return their top six wide receivers from 2020.
4. Oregon Ducks
Johnny Johnson III is one of the best receivers in the Pac-12. He figures to draw a ton of attention from opposing defensive coordinators and open things up for the other Duck receivers.
3. Clemson Tigers
Justyn Ross figures to be one of the best receivers in college football and should be drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was recently cleared to play by doctors; so it’s all systems go for one of the biggest superstars in the game today. The kid is a human highlight reel.
2. Oklahoma Sooners
Marvin Mims and Theo Wease, Jr. are two big reasons why many people are picking the Oklahoma Sooners to win the National Championship in 2021. Both receivers have earth-scorching speed and great hands. Let’s not forget Jadon Haselwood, who many think is poised for a breakout season in 2021.
These receivers are as good as any in the country and it’s no mistake they are near the top of this list.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson are back in Columbus and that’s terrifying news for opposing defenses. They were the best wide receiver duo in America in 2020 and look to build upon that this year. Two five-star prospects, Marvin Harrison, Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, have already made immediate contributions for the Buckeyes in the spring.
It’s easy to see why this is the best group of receivers in college football.
