Katy, Texas – Point guard Christian Jones is quickly rising to the top of the 2025 rankings in the state of Texas.

The 5-foot-9 quick footed sharpshooter is averaging 15.2 points, 5.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game on the 6A level as a freshman.

Those impressive numbers include 81 made three-pointers at 43% through 25 games for the 18-8 Rams. That means Jones is well on his way to totaling over 100 three-pointers at over 40% as a freshman on varsity basketball in the Houston area. That is no small feat.

Jones’ list of accomplishments so far this season include one 30 point game, five games fo six or more three-pointers and four games of 10 or more assists.

The stellar play earned Jones a first offer on December 23, the Texas A&M Aggies.

Jones exceeding all expectations

Mayde Creek head coach Anthony Fobb has been more than impressed with his star freshman point guard. As Jones has gotten more comfortable leading older players, his voice has come out.

“Initially, we saw a very quick and very fast guard.” Fob told On3 Thursday. “Quiet. As a point guard, you’ve got to be a vocal leader. I have seen that lately in practice and in games. He’s starting to be that vocal leader. He knows when to pick and choose when to attack. When to shoot, when not to shoot. Early on, he was kind of timid being a freshman because he wanted to get everyone involved. He’s starting to understand the role that we want for him. He’s starting to shoot the ball more, and make plays for others more. The biggest part is the vocal part, being an extension of the coach.”

Making the right play, and a sharpshooter

Fobb and staff initially witnessed Jones’ feel for making the correct play with the ball. It wasn’t until drill work began that the Rams coaches saw the elite three-point shooting ability.

“That’s surprised me. When he first came in, I didn’t know. I’m not a big YouTube guy or watch summer basketball that much if it’s not our current kids, so when he came in what caught our eye was his passing ability. Make the right play. Then when we started getting into our shooting drills and charting our shooting drills, seeing this kid was making 20-something threes in a row. We were charting him, and he was hitting seventy percent from three in drills. We knew we had another scorer and shooter on our hands.”

Next part of development for Jones

Jones will be a first-team all-district player as a freshman. He will begin the spring AAU circuit as a prospect college coaches want to watch.

Along with continuing to grow, there are two parts of the game that Fobb is focused on with his budding star point guard.

“It’s taking a defensive mindset of finishing every possession on the defensive end. Using his quickness. He’s very quick, so he has had games for five or more steals. But there have been some games where we didn’t think he finished on defense. He’s played a lot of minutes, so I understand that can hurt him on the defensive end and and his shooting. The next part is getting his body ready for the pounding he is going to take day in, day out.”

Jones isn’t the lone high-major freshman prospect at Mayde Creek. Fellow guard Jamal Chretien II is averaging nearly 14 points per game this season. The 6-foot-3 left-hander has a 6’7” wingspan, and a smoothness about his game.
