It’s been a difficult start to the season for the Carolina Panthers. At 1-5, they have the worst record in the NFC. The team has already fired head coach Matt Rhule. Now, it appears as though there is going to be a sale on the team’s top talent. This started when running back Christian McCaffrey was traded to the San Francisco 49ers.
In return for Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers received a second, third, fourth, and fifth-round pick. All of those will be in the 2023 NFL Draft, except the fifth-round pick, which is for the 2024 NFL Draft. With them, the Panthers are hoping to rebuild the team’s core. With McCaffrey, the 49ers want to make a push for the playoffs.
Before leaving, Christian McCaffrey penned a heartfelt message to Panthers fans, who supported him for six seasons as he grew into his role as a star running back.

“I’m forever grateful for all of the people who have helped make these past 5 1/2 years so special for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Christian McCaffrey wrote.
“Carolina, I will always love you.”
Playing for the 49ers will be a sort of homecoming for Christian McCaffrey, who played his college football at Stanford. He is expected to be in uniform as early as Sunday. However, he’ll likely be used in a limited capacity because he still needs to learn the playbook. According to Ian Rapoport, “Then he’ll ramp up from there.”
