Christian Watson, a 6-foot-7 small forward out of Washington (D.C.) St. John’s has committed to Miami basketball for the class of 2022, he tells On3.

Watson is the Hurricane’s first commitment of the 2022 class. He ultimately chose the Hurricanes over Marquette and Georgetown but also received offers from Providence, Xavier, Rutgers, VCU, Penn State, among others.

Miami is also targeting Otega Oweh, Daniel Skillings, Ernest Udeh Jr., among others.

Christian Watson on why he chose Miami

“I chose Miami because the first day I got down there…I felt the family atmosphere, the family vibes,” Watson said. “They greeted me at the airport when I landed…greeted me at the hotel when I got there. The campus is really nice. I had really good vibes with the players already on the team. Overall, I just felt like it was a family.”

Playing time and development key for Christian Watson

“With them losing about six seniors, that’s a lot of playing time for me coming in as a freshman,” Watson said. “I knew what I was looking for, coming in and playing right away as a freshman. They play in one of the best conferences, if not the best conference, the ACC. You’re playing schools like North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse, Florida State, almost every night. I just feel like I can really develop my game, get stronger, and my IQ there. They see me playing the 1, 2, or 3 position, coming off ball screens, making the right reads for my teammates.”

“I know my game can develop to get me to the next level, the NBA,” Watson says.

The decision was clear

“I knew before I left Miami that I wanted to go there,” Watson said. “It just hit me. It clicked. I told myself that’s where I wanted to go.”

“I feel like it’s the right choice, the best fit, and the best school to go to to get to the next level.”
