After missing the season opener against SMU, Nevada quarterback Chubba Purdy has been cleared to practice and is expected to be available for the Wolf Pack’s Sept. 7 game against Georgia Southern, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported. He is also expected to be “full go” by the Sept. 14 matchup against Minnesota.

Purdy – who previously played at Nebraska and Florida State – has been dealing with a shoulder injury after transferring to Nevada during the spring. He made five starts at his two previous stops and appeared in 12 total games over two seasons at Nebraska.

All told, Purdy has made 16 appearances during his four-year career. He has 846 passing yards and six touchdowns to his name as he gets ready for his final season of college football at Nevada. The Wolf Pack is getting ready to take on Troy this week after starting the year in Week 0.

Purdy, who’s the younger brother of Brock Purdy, initially committed to San Jose State out of the transfer portal. However, he ultimately flipped to SMU and was preparing to compete for the starting quarterback job before his injury limited his practice time.

Chubba Purdy entered the transfer portal just hours after five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola signed with Nebraska on National Signing Day this past spring. He split time with Jeff Sims and Heinrich Haarberg a season ago, but with Raiola coming in – and eventually winning the starting quarterback job – Purdy opted for a change of scenery. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“Thank you Nebraska and thank you Husker Nation for all your support,” Purdy wrote on X. “I have entered the portal and have 2 years left of eligibility. God bless you all.”

Brendon Lewis got the start for Nevada in the season opener last week, and the Wolf Pack put SMU on upset alert at one point. However, the Mustangs managed to come back in the second half and come away with the 29-24 victory. Lewis completed 14 of 26 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns as Nevada used a strong rushing attack to take control early.

Purdy’s ramp-up will continue ahead of this week’s matchup with Troy. From there, he’ll try to get back on the field in Week 2 when Nevada squares off against Georgia Southern.
