Clark Lea provides update on availability of Khordae Sydnor, Kolbey Taylor
Following a thrilling overtime win against Virginia Tech, two Vanderbilt players missed time in the second half for various reasons. Coach Clark Lea expanded on their availability for this week’s contest against Alcorn State.
He did so in his weekly press conference on Tuesday.
“Khordae (Sydnor) is week-to-week with an ankle, so just don’t see him being available this weekend,” Clark Lea said. “With respect to Kolbey (Taylor), that’s really an internal matter personal to Kolbey and to our team. So I want to leave it just he’s not available to play this week.”
Sydnor recorded one sack against the Hokies before he suffered an apparent ankle injury during the second quarter and was helped off the field. He later returned to the game, but it was clear his ankle was still bothering him.

That he won’t be available this week means he’ll get another weekend to rest it.
Sydnor is a transfer from Purdue, joining the team this offseason. In 2023 with the Boilermakers he played in 10 games and made one start, making five tackles, with 2.5 tackles for a loss and two quarterback hurries.

He’s a significant piece in the Vanderbilt front seven for Clark Lea and company.
Taylor, meanwhile, is a cornerback who transferred in from Wyoming this offseason. He is an athletic freak, tabbed as such on Bruce Feldman‘s ‘Freaks List’ on The Athletic.
He played in nine games last season for the Cowboys, tallying 29 tackles with seven pass breakups.
Taylor did not appear in the second half of the team’s win against Virginia Tech on Saturday. He failed to record any statistics in his first-half action.
As to when he’ll be back, Lea left that open ended for Vanderbilt.
“As there’s clarity and we go further in this we’ll communicate more,” Clark Lea said. “But right now that’s an internal matter to us and we’ll just leave it at that.”
Vanderbilt is set to take on Alcorn State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET with a broadcast on ESPNU.
