This season did not go according to plan for Clemson. After opening in the Top-10, they immediately opened the year with a loss. They then went on to start with a disappointing record of 4-4.
However, something, maybe even Tyler from Spartanburg, lit a fire under the Tigers from there. They went on to win each of their final four games, including a pair of ranked ones over Notre Dame and North Carolina, to close their year at a respectable finish of 8-4.
In yet another postseason appearance, Clemson will lean on a Top-25 defense that has allowed just a hair under 20 points per game this season.

2023 also wasn’t the best campaign for Kentucky either as they did the opposite of Clemson. After a 5-0 start, they closed by losing five of their final seven. To be fair, three of those came to team’s that finished in the Top-10 for the College Football Playoff but, nonetheless, it was a year that fell fairly short of expectations in the bluegrass.
Even so, they did manage to pick themselves up in a sense in their season finaley. They enter the postseason with a massive, seven-point win over Louisville in the Governor’s Cup.
The Wildcats finished around the middle of the pack nationally on both sides of the ball. Still, with Mark Stoops still at the helm in Lexington, they’ll be ready to compete against a prime opponent in what will be the team’s eighth straight bowl appearance of his tenure.
