Clemson‘s dominant 59-35 win over NC State heavily featured junior wide receiver Adam Randall on the offensive side of the ball. Who had a career day despite not being at full health according to Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney.

Swinney took the podium following Sunday’s game. Revealing that Randall actually suffered from a serious injury earlier in the week at practice, but wanted to suit up against the Wolfpack before having to undergo surgery.

“Adam Randall, awesome, and what you don’t know about Adam Randall is he broke his foot last Monday,” Swinney said. “He’s got a little stress fracture in his toe, but he really wanted to play this game. So we’ve known since last Monday that this Monday we gotta put a screw in his toe.”

Despite having a broken toe, Randall caught five passes for a career-high 69 yards on Saturday to lead the Tigers. Also catching the first touchdown pass of his career from his quarterback and roommate Cade Klubnik. Who embraced him along with the rest of his teammates following a score that unfortunately won’t be replicated for a few weeks.

“So he’ll be out for at least a couple of ball games,” Swinney added. “He’s always been a great healer, but we’ll see where he is. We’ve got four games and an open date, I think his hope is to be back for Virginia, but if not certainly by the open date.”

Randall has suffered from several injuries throughout his career but has progressed year after year with Clemson after catching 10 passes for 128 yards as a true freshman, followed by 22 receptions for 250 yards last season. Numbers he’s likely to top once again this season when he returns from injury if he continues at his current pace.

“He had a great day out there and was out there playing with a with, I guess technically, a broken toe. But a little stress fracture in it. So we’ll be missing him for a few ball games, so I hate that for him, but awesome to see him play the way he did,” Swinney concluded.
