Cleveland Browns make critical status update on Jarvis Landry injury
The Cleveland Browns have been without star wide receiver Jarvis Landry for the last three games after he suffered a Week 2 knee injury in a win over the Houston Texans, but his three-week stint on the injured reserve came to a close on Friday.
Landry, who was officially diagnosed with an MCL sprain in Week 2, was placed on the injured reserve. But the Browns designated Landry to return off the injured reserve Friday, opening up his practice window. Now, the Browns have 21 days to put Landry on the active roster.
Landry hinted at his return on Tuesday, labeling his status as “day-to-day” despite, at the time, still being on the injured reserve. He said he thinks there’s a chance that he can play against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, but he noted that anytime over the next few weeks seems like a good time to return.
“We’ve got three home games this next little turn, so it will be a perfect time somewhere in there if I can get back,” Landry said Tuesday. “At the end of the day, the team and myself and my camp, we’re smart about the decisions about coming back or not and when that will be.”
Landry suffered a knee injury in the first quarter against the Texans in Week 2 and did not return. Browns coach Kevin Stafanski said postgame that it is an MCL injury, but subsequent MRIs revealed a rather low-severity sprain, rather than a tear.

Injuries have kept the Browns from rolling out the first-team offense in its entirety all season. Not only has Landry missed time, but fellow LSU star Odell Beckham Jr. has fallen victim to injuries; skull players aside, the Browns lost last week, 47-42, in a shootout against the Los Angeles Chargers and did so without their starting left tackle, Jedrick Wills Jr., and their backup, Chris Hubbard.
Landry on Tuesday revealed his excitement with the offense, as the unit takes one step closer to rolling out a fully-healthy lineup.
“It’s going to be special when we get all the pieces together,” Landry said.
Landry in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs had five receptions for 71 yards, and in Week 1 he had just one catch for nine yards before being sidelined by the MCL injury. In his eight-year NFL career, Landry, a five-time Pro Bowler, has tallied 642 receptions for 7,108 receiving yards, averaging just over 11 yards per reception, and 35 receiving touchdowns. Landry is in his fourth year with the Browns.
Before heading to Cleveland, Landry was on the Miami Dolphins from 2014-2017. Landry was a star in his senior season at LSU, tallying 1,193 receiving yards and ten touchdowns on 77 receptions en route to earning second team All-SEC honors in 2013. Following his junior season, he became a second-round, 63rd-overall selection by the Dolphins in the 2014 NFL Draft.
