Coaches Poll Top 25 College Basketball Rankings released after Week 7
The USA TODAY Coaches Poll Top 25 has been updated following an exciting seventh week for the 2024-2025 men’s college basketball season.
There weren’t many upsets, as many of the top teams in the nation continued their impressive starts to the 2024 season. Now, they’ll be looking to finish the year strong, and turn the page to the 2025 portion of their schedule.
With that in mind, the sport’s brightest coaching minds put their brains together to come up with some rankings after Week 6. Check out the Top 25 below, and see if your team made the cut following the second week of a new campaign.
1. Tennessee
Tennessee defeated Western Carolina by 48 points during their lone action of this past week. That’s enough to keep them among the top teams in the nation at 11-0 at the moment.
Their only game this week is a clash with Middle Tennessee State University. It’ll take place at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday evening inside the Food City Center in Knoxville.
2. Auburn
Auburn picked up two nice victories over the past week. First, they took care of business against Georgia State by 41 last Tuesday, and they followed that up with a major dub against Purdue over the weekend, winning by 18.
The Tigers will enjoy a bit of a break over Christmas. They’ll return to the floor on Monday, Dec. 30 against Monmouth, as they look to build on their 11-1 record.
3. Iowa State
Iowa State had to wait all week to play again, but they were able to secure a 27-point win over Morgan State when the time came on Sunday. Tamin Lipsey led the way for the team with 20 points.
Looking ahead, the Cyclones won’t play again this week, with Christmas on its way. They’ll be back in action on Monday, Dec. 30 against Colorado, with that game taking place in Boulder.
4. Duke (+1)
Duke won a pair of games this week, first against George Mason in the non-conference, then starting the conference slate with a win over Georgia Tech.
They’ll let Santa take the spotlight this week. The Blue Devils will be back in action on New Year’s Eve, when they’ll welcome Virginia Tech to Durham for a conference showdown.
5. Florida (+1)
Florida knocked off North Carolina on a neutral court in the Jumpman Invitational before blowing out North Florida, further building the hype surrounding their hot start.
They’re 12-0 on the season, and they only have once more contest in 2024. The Gators will face Stetson this week, with that game taking place in Gainesville on Sunday afternoon.
6. Alabama (+1)
Alabama traveled on the road to North Dakota and survived before facing Kent State at home as they round out the non-conference resume.
They’ll finish out 2024 with a game against South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon. The Crimson Tide are 10-2, but they’ll have to be careful and not overlook their 9-5 opponent in Tuscaloosa.
7. Kansas (+1)
Kansas played just one game throughout the week, facing Brown in the final game of the non-conference schedule.

8. Marquette (+1)
Marquette has kicked off conference play, beating Butler and Xavier over the past week to open the new portion of the schedule atop the Big East.
Next up is a New Year’s Eve clash with Providence. The Golden Eagles will be looking for their twelfth win of the season to send 2024 out with a bang.
9. Oregon (+1)
Oregon played a non-conference matchup against former Pac-12 foe Stanford on a neutral court in the San Jose Tip-Off, where they defeated the Cardinal by 15.
They have one game this week, their final one in 2024, coming against Weber State on Sunday afternoon. It should lead to their twelfth win, all things considered.
