Coaches Poll Top 25 College Football Rankings released after Week 5
The latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings are in following Week 5 of college football and there were definitely some changes, as expected.
Alabama and Georgia put on one of the best shows in the sport, as expected. Well, maybe not as expected considering it was better!
But there were other games to talk about so let’s dive into the latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings following Week 5.
1. Texas (+1)
Texas’ ship has been steadied by Arch Manning since Quinn Ewers went down. And in a win over Mississippi State to get that first SEC win, Manning looked good again for the top team in the Coaches Poll.
Now it’s a matter of time before Ewers is back and the Longhorns have two weeks to prepare for rival Oklahoma. The bye came at just the right time.
2. Alabama (+2)
Alabama had the win of the year, so far. The Crimson Tide’s thrilling 41-34 victory over Georgia was what college football is all about.
Blowing a 28-0 lead could’ve been demoralizing, but Jalen Milroe and Ryan Williams refused to go down after Georgia stormed back to take the lead. Welcome to the SEC Kalen DeBoer! Alabama never left.
3. Ohio State
Ohio State did what it usually does: win a football game. This time, it was a 38-7 win over Michigan State on the road to open up Big Ten play.
Will Howard fired two touchdowns, Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith each reeled in one. In fact, the latter actually ran for a score too. This team is quietly dominant with the SEC getting all of the attention this weekend.
4. Tennessee (+2)
Tennessee had a bye week, but the Volunteers clearly made their mark through four games this season. Nico Iamaleava could end up being in the Heisman conversation this year.
But it’s running back Dylan Sampson that is lighting up the stat sheet. He has 10 touchdowns this year!
5. Georgia (-4)
Georgia nearly got blown out of the building going down to Tuscaloosa. However, the Bulldogs erased a 28-0 deficit to fall short 41-34. Heck, they took a 34-33 lead!
Still, it could be a blip on the radar based on how Georgia is built this season. But that was a monumental win for Alabama and a gut wrenching defeat for Kirby Smart’s crew.
6. Oregon (+1)
Oregon returned to form this weekend with a win over UCLA. It was domination from the Ducks as Dillon Gabriel threw three touchdowns as Oregon moved up the Coaches Poll.
Oregon is still the second best team in the Big Ten behind Ohio State. That game is in a few weeks so we’ll have to wait for that epic matchup.

7. Penn State (+1)
The Nittany Lions got Illinois’ best shot, but the Fighting Illini couldn’t keep up in the second half. So with a 21-7 win, Penn State remained undefeated.
Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton combined for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. That was some serious “white out energy” from the crowd too.
8. Miami (+1)
The Hurricanes avoided disaster with a 38-34 win over Virginia Tech. Sure, it was a thriller, but Miami had lost. Well, until they didn’t.
A Hail Mary pass into the end zone was initially called a touchdown for the Hokies. After review, there was no clear possession and it appeared the receiver went out of bounds. Take a breath Canes’ fans, Miami is still unbeaten.
9. Missouri (+2)
Missouri had the week off following its overtime win over Vanderbilt and it was much needed. Eli Drinkwitz and crew get Texas A&M next week, and the latter is hot.
Don’t let the close win fool you though. Missouri is still 4-0 on the season and has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball to compete highly in the SEC.
10. Michigan (+2)
Michigan returned to the top 10 rankings this week with a win over Minnesota, but it wasn’t without drama. The Wolverines can still control a football game, but struggle with the passing game.
The 27-24 win shouldn’t have been that close as Minnesota was a questionable offsides penalty away from recovering an onside kick. Still, this team keeps rolling despite the one blemish against Texas.
