Coaches Poll Week 7
On3

The latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings are in following Week 7 of college football and there were definitely some changes, as expected.

There were some hotly contested games in the Big Ten and SEC to highlight the weekend. But let’s not forget about the ACC and Big 12 when it comes to the Power 4. And then the rest of college football, it’s all good stuff!

Let’s dive into the latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings following Week 6.

1. Texas

Texas survived a slow start and then ran away from rival Oklahoma in Red River. It took a few drives for QB Quinn Ewers, but he settled in and led the Longhorns to a 34-3 win.

Tre Wisner was the star on the ground with 13 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. Texas remained undefeated with the win.

2. Oregon (+1)

The Ducks earned their biggest win of the season and after a slow start in the first couple of weeks, they finally put the world on notice. Beating Ohio State 32-31 was no easy task and they might have to do it again.

Dillon Gabriel threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns while also running for one, but it was the ground game that really put them over the top. Jordan James ran 23 times for 115 yards and a score.

3. Penn State (+2)

How about Penn State coming back and beating USC on the road? It seems the plane issues from State College, or runway issues, didn’t affect the Nittany Lions.

In the 33-30 win in overtime, Drew Allar threw for nearly 400 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was picked up three times. Still, Penn State outscored USC 24-10 in the second half.

4. Georgia

The Bulldogs edged out Mississippi State in a 41-31 shootout to get another win on the schedule. Kirby Smart controversy aside, the Bulldogs kept themselves in position for the SEC.

Next up is Texas in Austin. The winner will have the inside track to the SEC Championship Game. If Georgia wins, things will get really interesting at the top.

5. Ohio State (-3)

Ohio State fell just short and perhaps Will Howard was not aware of the clock. With six seconds left, the QB decided to run and slide rather than throw the ball away and the game was over.

He won’t be blamed by the team though, despite the one point loss. The Buckeyes are still one of the top teams in the nation and have plenty of room to get back to the top.

6. Miami

Miami was idle this week and it was probably a much needed break following the thrilling wins over Virginia Tech and Cal. Still, the Hurricanes are at the top of the ACC and undefeated.

The next two opponents are interesting: a competitive Louisville team and perhaps a desperate Florida State squad. This will be telling before the final third of the year.

7. Alabama

Alabama is on shaky ground right now, but the Crimson Tide emerged victorious against an upset-minded South Carolina squad. If it weren’t for Alabama defending a two-point conversion, who knows what would’ve happened?
There could be questions about Kalen DeBoer and Jalen Milroe, at least in the context of the last two weeks. Next week’s game at Tennessee could answer a lot of those pressing questions.

8. LSU (+2)

Remember when the sky was falling after LSU lost to USC during the first game of the season? Well, like their fellow Tigers from Clemson, these Bayou Bengals have won five in a row as well.

The latest was an overtime thriller over Ole Miss. After holding the Rebels to a field goal in overtime, Garrett Nussmeier fired the winning touchdown immediately after. Celebrate!

9. Clemson (+2)

The Clemson comeback story since being blown out by Georgia during the first game of the year might be overlooked. The Tigers have won five straight games.

In their latest victory, Clemson dominated Wake Forest 49-14. Cade Klubnik threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

10. Tennessee (-1)

Tennessee avoided disaster against rival Florida, beating the Gators in overtime. So with that, a top 10 ranking awaited them going into Week 7.

But the Vols look shaky in recent weeks. So who’s to say that won’t lead to a loss? This coming weekend against Alabama will tell a lot about Josh Heupel’s squad.
