Cole Adams injury update: Latest on Alabama wide receiver
Alabama needs to get going against USF, up just one point heading into the fourth quarter. Luckily, they are in the red zone to kick off the final frame of play, having a third down. Head coach Kalen DeBoer decided to scheme up a play for wide receiver Cole Adams, one that worked and gained a first down.
But from the moment Adams fell to the ground, he was in pain and signaling toward a knee with his leg. Trainers instantly took the field to help him out before he walked off the field under his own power. A trip to the medical tent was immediately made, though.
Adams is more than a wide receiver for Alabama, playing in multiple roles. He is a key figure on special teams, being the punt returner. DeBoer knows he has an explosive player on his hands and no better than to get the ball in his hands than catching punts.
“This is his first time holding that position, I think being a punt returner is about trust, first of all,” Alabama assistant Robert Gillespie said recently. “So we obviously trust him a lot. He’s done a good job catching the ball. But the next part is being explosive. You can’t teach that. I think he looked at the film and saw there were some opportunities for him to get vertical and make some big plays.

“But with that comes the humility he had, because he knows he left some yards out there. I’m expecting him to come out and get better week by week and we’ll start with this week, catching the ball, making the first man miss, getting vertical and being the explosive guy he can be.”

There has not been too much of an impact from Adam, specifically, against USF. His lone pass came when the injury occurred, going for five yards. Two punt returns have gone for a total of zero yards as well.
