Colgate guard Braeden Smith enters NCAA transfer portal
Colgate guard Braeden Smith has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Smith was the Patriot League Player of the Year in 2023-24.
He averaged 12.5 points and 5.6 assists per game.
Braeden Smith started all 70 games he played in over the past two years. As a freshman in 2022-23, he was named a finalist for the National Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
Smith was once again an elite player this past season, finishing with 20-plus points five times. He helped Colgate to a 25-10 (16-2) record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Colgate lost to Baylor in the opening round.

Michigan guard George Washington III re-enters NCAA transfer portal
Braeden Smith wasn’t the only talented guard to enter the transfer portal on Monday.
Michigan freshman guard George Washington III has once again changed his mind on the transfer portal. He previously entered and then withdrew but will now go back into the portal, On3 has learned.
The Louisville, Kentucky native was once a highly touted recruit in the 2023 class and spent one year at Michigan under Juwan Howard, before deciding to evaluate options in the portal following the school’s coaching change.
As a rookie in 2023-24, Washington didn’t get the best first experience as a Wolverine, suffering through a brutal 8-24 season, which included a 3-17 mark in Big Ten play — prime reasons for why it’s Dusty May leading Michigan now, and not Howard.

From an individual standpoint, Washington didn’t get a ton of run, seeing just 6.6 minutes of action per game, while scoring 1.2 points per outing. There’s potential for much more, though, as the On3 Industry Ranking pegged Washington as a three-star recruit and the No. 126 overall player in the nation from the 2023 cycle.
Michigan has had plenty of roster turnover since Howard left and May took over. That includes Vladislav Goldin of FAU committing to the Wolverines on Monday.
Goldin started his career at Texas Tech before transferring to FAU in 2021.
Over his 117 collegiate appearances, Goldin has averaged 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 62.1% from the field. 107 of those were with the Owls with him starting in all but one of those.
During the past two seasons when Florida Atlantic made the NCAA Tournament, including the Final Four in 2023, Goldin posted 13 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4. blocks on a 64.9% field-goal rate. This past year was also a career season for him at 15.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks on 67.3% shooting.
