Trinity Christian quarterback Colin Hurley ready for breakout freshman season
Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian quarterback Colin Hurley is one of the fewer than 100 D-I football prospects going into their first year of high school with a Power Five offer in hand.
Hurley played for Trinity Christian’s varsity squad while he was in the eighth grade and helped them win head coach Verlon Dorminey’s eighth state title. Benefitting from the program’s prestige and his offers from Miami, Florida State and Ole Miss, there’s no doubt he’ll have plenty of eyes on him this fall.
“I feel prepared, and I feel like the team is prepared,” Hurley said. “I’m just ready to get on the field and get working. Personal goals are to throw 25 touchdowns, over 2,500 yards, and win another state championship.”
At nearly 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Hurley is clearly more developed than most his age and coaches took notice at camps over the summer.
“They say I’m a dog in the weight room and on the field,” Hurley said. “I’m a leader. I speak up. I tell people where they need to be, and I can throw the ball down the field. They say strong arm, accuracy.
“I think I did really well in the camps this year, it made me better. I threw against good competition and the coaches were impressed.”

Colin Hurley: Football Addict
Hurley and his father, a former Miami Police Department officer and high school coach, religiously watch football together but the rising freshman takes it to another level.
“I watch with my dad a lot, I’ll break down film of college and NFL players that I like to watch,” Hurley said. “I like watching college football more because it’s more explosive.
Despite his age, Hurley has competed with Pro Impact’s 7-on-7 18U team, and he regularly trains with quarterback developers at the 6 Points facility in Jacksonville. Trainers Denny Thompson and Jonathan Pearce work with D-I quarterbacks Joey Gatewood from Kentucky, Carson Beck from Georgia, Jeff Sims from Georgia Tech and even Jaguars’ QB Gardner Minshew.
If Colin Hurley has the type of freshman season that he’s working towards, there’s no school in the country that won’t know his name. It also helps that Trinity Christian boasts 4-stars Treyaun Webb and Camron Miller, committed to Oklahoma and Penn State, respectively.
