Division I college baseball programs could be closing in on one of the biggest items on the NCAA wish list ahead of the 2023 season. According to D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers, there is momentum building toward the addition of more full-time assistants on the coaching staff across the country.

While the details have not been finalized on any of the major points at this time, the report provides a timeline between December and January for a potential announcement.

“Nothing is ever a done deal until official, but the more I talk to sources, the more confident I am that D1 Baseball will have more full-time coaches approved in either December OR January,” Rogers posted. “The question is how many? (4, 5?) and what those roles would mean for recruiting, etc.”

The suggestion that schools could not only add a fourth full-time assistant, but a fifth as well, could mean major changes and a lot of transactions in the winter months ahead of next season if the long-awaited change passes with officials.

The addition of assistants on staff also has other ramifications, as Rogers says, on the recruiting trail as the NCAA limits certain points of contact and has strict rules on the involvement of certain staff members in the process.
