College Baseball Rankings: Baseball America releases 2025 Preseason Top 25
The college baseball season is right around the corner, just a few weeks away. And the race to Omaha and the College World Series figures to be as competitive as ever.
There are a handful of the usual suspects who will vie for supremacy this season, but there are also some upstarts who could send a jolt into the proceedings.
Baseball America has stopped to rank the Top 25 teams ahead of the 2025 season, compiling an extensive look at this year’s best teams going into the year. On3 breaks down the ranking below.
1. Texas A&M Aggies
The Aggies will have a first-year head coach after former coach Jim Schlossnagle bolted for Texas immediately following last year’s College World Series. The move sent shockwaves through the sport.
On tap for the Aggies will be Michael Earley, with the program staying in house. He helped keep the vast majority of the core from 2024 intact, so Texas A&M should be as well-equipped as anyone to make a deep run this season.
2. LSU Tigers
Coming off its national title in 2023, LSU had a bit of a down year in 2024 and couldn’t quite escape regional play. But the core of that team is back, bolstered by a massive transfer class that is expected to pay immediate dividends.
Jay Johnson is back for his fourth season in charge, and he’s proven pretty adept at getting the pieces to fit together. If the Tigers gel quickly they could be a real problem nationally.
3. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee is coming off a national title and while there’s plenty of talent remaining, it’s never easy following up with a huge target on your back. That’ll be the biggest challenge for the Volunteers this spring.
Still, the job coach Tony Vitello has done is undeniable. A loaded class of transfers is going to be counted on to step in and play right away. Like other programs, it’s all about how quickly they mesh. Expect a lot of tinkering early.
4. Arkansas Razorbacks
As Dave Van Horn goes into his 23rd season with the program, the continuity he brings is one of the biggest positives for the Hogs. Arkansas has had some elite pieces in recent years but hasn’t always had balance.
A handful of transfers will be expected to bolster the hitting, which was a bit wanting at times last season. But the pitching should once again be elite, led by Gabe Gaeckle and Gage Wood.
5. Virginia Cavaliers
Like Arkansas, Virginia is led by a coach with multiple decades of experience, with coach Brian O’Connor now going into his 22nd season with the program. He’s seen a whole lot of baseball and knows how to adjust within a season to maximize results.
The Cavaliers have been to Omaha three times in the last four years, one of the most consistent programs in that span. This year the strength for Virginia should be the bats, with a strong nucleus returning from the 2024 team.
6. Florida State Seminoles
Link Jarrett has done a remarkable job turning around the program in short order after it had fallen by the wayside in his first season. He helped the Seminoles reach the College World Series in 2024.

Baseball America notes that the strength of the Seminoles team in 2025 will be the pitching. Lefty Jamie Arnold should run point on the pitching front.
7. Florida Gators
Florida barely snuck into the NCAA Tournament last year, then managed to go on a fairly deep run all the way into Omaha despite having some clear weak spots. The transfer portal was used a little more heavily by coach Kevin O’Sullivan this offseason in trying to shore up the problem areas, chiefly pitching.
But the Gators could also benefit from the late momentum gained in 2024. Sometimes all it takes is a taste of Omaha to fuel a team, and Florida has had plenty of that in the recent past.
8. Clemson Tigers
In one of the most thrilling Super Regionals of the 2024 season, Clemson came up just a hair short against Florida. But the Tigers were an elite team and every bit deserving of a spot in Omaha. Sometimes those are the breaks.
Center fielder Cam Cannarella is back after a stellar season last spring. He’ll help anchor a unit that has added some impact transfers, like Big Ten Freshman of the Year Luke Gaffney from Purdue.
9. Oregon State Beavers
Oregon State coach Mitch Canham is now going into his sixth season, and he’s coming off one of the team’s best runs yet. The program nearly reached Omaha but was eliminated in the Lexington Super Regional.
Trying to build that success into an even deeper run will be the key for the program this season. The weekend rotation should be bolstered by a pair of transfers, giving the Beavers a very solid staff.
10. Duke Blue Devils
Duke was eliminated in the regional round of play last season, despite a solid season otherwise. The Blue Devils will be looking to build on that but have to answer some key questions in a few spots.
One of them will be on the mound, where Jonathan Santucci and Charlie Beilenson are now gone. Replacing them won’t be easy — as Baseball America points out, they accounted for nearly 30% of Duke’s strikeouts in 2024.
