College football’s National Championship is looming and college basketball is in full swing, but it’s almost time for college baseball. In just over a month, on Valentine’s Day, most teams in the country will begin their journey as they aim to reach, and win, the College World Series. First, though, it’s time for the preseason D1Baseball top 25 rankings.

Omaha was made up entirely of ACC and SEC teams last season, with four from each conference. Ultimately, Tennessee and Texas A&M emerged from their respective brackets, with Tennessee going on to take the College World Series Finals in three games. Both teams carry high expectations into the 2025 campaign, and both are featured in D1Baseball’s preseason top 25 poll.

The offseason might have been just as dramatic. As usual, the transfer portal was in full swing with plenty of notable movement from prominent players. But it didn’t stop there.

This offseason’s story was Jim Schlossnagle’s decision to leave Texas A&M just after finishing one win shy of a National Championship, opting to leave for in-state rival Texas. Schlossnagle’s replacement in College Station was Michael Earley, who was able to retain the large majority of Texas A&M’s roster. It’s safe to say every single fan of the sport will be tuned in to see the Aggies and Longhorns battle in Austin in late April.

Without further ado, here’s D1Baseball’s full preseason top 25 rankings.

1. Texas A&M

2024 Record: 53-15 (19-11 in SEC)
2024 Finish: College World Series runner-up

After finishing one win short of a title and then losing its coach to rival Texas, Texas A&M is hungry in 2025. Michael Earley took over and hit a home run in his first test, which was re-recruiting the roster and keeping them Aggies despite a plethora of transfer portal entries. Among those returners were potential 2025 No. 1 overall pick Jace LaViolette, and Gavin Grahovac, among others. The Aggies added Gavin Kash to an already stacked lineup, too. Texas A&M lost a lot on the mound, but Ryan Prager turning down the MLB Draft was a huge plus. The Aggies are no surprise in the top spot of D1Baseball’s top 25.

2. Virginia

2024 Record: 46-17 (18-12 in ACC)
2024 Finish: Lost in College World Series

Virginia’s lineup undoubtedly took a hit by losing Griff O’Ferrall, Ethan Anderson and more, but they still look very strong heading into 2025. With multiple headliners returning to the lineup and a stout freshman class coming in, expectations aren’t dipping at all in Charlottesville. On the mound, Virginia has the chance to be very good too led by Evan Blanco and Jay Woolfolk in the rotation. Omaha is certainly a strong possibility yet again.

3. LSU

2024 Record: 43-23 (13-17 in SEC)
2024 Finish: Lost in Chapel Hill Regional

LSU was on track to pretty notably miss the NCAA Tournament last season before a late-year surge launched them into the field. The Tigers, the 2023 National Champions, are looking to get back on track in 2025. Tommy White is the most notable loss, along with LSU’s top three catchers from last year. But adding Indiana State transfer Luis Hernandez helps tremendously. On the mound, LSU was without standout Chase Shores last year to injury, but he’s back now. Jay Johnson’s squad has plenty of other options throughout the staff, too, and they look to be in a good spot entering the season.

4. Tennessee

2024 Record: 60-13 (22-8 in SEC)
2024 Finish: National Champions

Tony Vitello and company have created a monster at Tennessee, and they aren’t satisfied with just last year’s national title. Expectations remain extremely high entering 2025, and they are undoubtedly one of the favorites to win it all again. Even after losing notable players like Christian Moore, Blake Burke, Drew Beam and others, the Volunteers added Andrew Fischer and Gavin Kilen as instant-impact bats in the heart of the lineup.

5. Arkansas

2024 Record: 44-16 (20-10 in SEC)
2024 Finish: Lost in Fayetteville Regional

Arkansas has a ton of new players, with 30 newcomers on the roster this season. But expectations haven’t fallen and the Razorbacks are in the top five in D1Baseball’s preseason top 25. Wehiwa Aloy and Charles Davalan return to the lineup, while TCU transfer Logan Maxwell will have a healthy role too. Hagen Smith, Brady Tygart and Mason Molina are all gone from the rotation, but ECU transfer Zach Root, Ohio State transfer Landon Beidelschies and freshman Cole Gibler give the Razorbacks plenty of potential behind likely ace Gabe Gaeckle.

6. North Carolina

2024 Record: 48-16 (22-8 in ACC)
2024 Finish: Lost in College World Series

You’d be hard pressed to find a deeper pitching staff in the ACC than North Carolina. The Tar Heels have Jason DeCaro, who was a 17-year old true freshman last season, as the ace, with Folger Boaz and Jake Knapp likely returning form injury and joining the rotation. Even if they don’t there are at least three other strong options to step in. UNC lost a lot from its lineup, notably Vance Honeycutt and Casey Cook, and lose 87 home runs from last year’s team. Still, potential 2025 top five pick Luke Stevenson is back alongside Gavin Gallaher, and there should still be plenty of offense in Chapel Hill.

7. Oregon State

2024 Record: 45-16 (19-10 in Pac-12)
2024 Finish: Lost in Lexington Super Regional

Oregon State lost Travis Bazzana, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick, in the offseason, but the Beavers still sit in a great spot entering their first season of independence in baseball. Washington transfer Aiva Arquette figures to play a big role in the middle infield, and Trent Caraway should be a mainstay in the middle of the order if he stays healthy. Gavin Turley will play a big role, too. While they lose a lot on the mound, the Beavers have a lot of options to step into those roles, and if they can find some stability in the rotation, they’ll be a strong Omaha contender again.

8. Georgia

2024 Record: 43-17 (17-13 in SEC)
2024 Finish: Lost in Athens Super Regional

It was a heck of a season in 2024 for Wes Johnson and Georgia, and they went on to host and win their regional. Replacing 2024 Golden Spikes Award winner Charlie Condon will be a challenge, but there’s a decent bit of returning production including Slate Alford and Kolby Branch. On the mound, Leighton Finley and Kolten Smith headline what should be a strong pitching staff.

9. Florida State

2024 Record: 49-17 (17-12 in ACC)
2024 Finish: Lost in College World Series

Despite losing key players like Cam Smith and James Tibbs III, Florida State is among the nation’s best entering the year. They are led by ace Jamie Arnold on the mound, who figures to be a top five pick and could push for No. 1 with a good season. The Seminoles have plenty of rotation options behind him, including Cam Leiter, who has missed time due to injury. Max Williams is the most notable returner in the lineup, and there are plenty of options to fill out the rest.

10. Florida

2024 Record: 36-30 (13-17 in SEC)
2024 Finish: Lost in College World Series

After barely finishing above .500 last year, Florida sneaked into the NCAA Tournament and went all the way to Omaha. They lose two-way star Jac Caglianone, which is undoubtedly a big blow. Liam Peterson headlines the pitching staff, and he should take control of the Friday night role. USF transfer Bobby Boser is an intriguing addition to the lineup, as is Blake Cyr. With some mainstays back, the Gators should have plenty of production to hang their hat on in 2025.
