The second week of college baseball marked the return of midweek mania, and it also brought us even more loaded multiple-team events over the weekend. After all of the action and upsets, D1Baseball has released updated top 25 rankings exiting the second weekend.

Five top 25 teams lost their respective weekend series, leading to some pretty notable movement in this week’s rankings. It starts right there towards the top, with Virginia falling and shaking up the top five.

Multiple teams will still be in action on Monday. North Carolina is in Greenville to finish its series against East Carolina, LSU hosts Nicholls, and Cincinnati finishes its series at UNLV.

Now, let’s dive into D1Baseball’s latest top 25 rankings. There are three new teams to enter this week’s rankings.

1. Texas A&M

Previous Ranking: No. 1
Weekly Record: 2-1
Overall Record: 5-1

The Aggies were perfect on opening weekend, but didn’t have the same result this weekend. After winning 6-1 and 4-3 against Cal Poly to clinch the series, Texas A&M was looking to finish the sweep on Sunday. Instead, Cal Poly won 3-2 to give the Aggies a sour taste in their mouth exiting the weekend, but they hold firm at No. 1 either way.

2. LSU

Previous Ranking: No. 3 (+1)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Overall Record: 6-1

Many wanted LSU to move up a spot after opening weekend, and now they get their wish. The Tigers started their week with a 13-1 midweek win over Southern, and then hosted Omaha over the weekend. LSU won 4-2 in the opener before falling 5-4 in a stunning result in the front half of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Tigers bounced back in the series finale, winning 12-1 to take the series and secure a move up in D1Baseball’s rankings.

3. Tennessee

Previous Ranking: No. 4 (+1)
Weekly Record: 4-0
Overall Record: 7-0

Tennessee has absolutely cruised through the early portion of its schedule so far. The Vols dismantled UNC Asheville on Tuesday in a 29-4 win, and then swept Samford over the weekend. Tennessee won 5-1 on Friday, 7-3 on Saturday and 11-1 on Sunday to secure the sweep, continuing their early momentum as they look to defend their national title.

4. Arkansas

Previous Ranking: No. 5 (+1)
Weekly Record: 3-1
Overall Record: 6-1

Arkansas has showed early in the year just why they’re ranked so highly. The Razorbacks’ pitching has been elite, although attention now turns to the injury to Gage Wood this weekend. Arkansas won 12-2 over Washington State on Monday to start the week, but then fell 3-2 against Kansas State on Friday. They bounced back with a 2-1 win over No. 22 TCU on Saturday, and then ended the weekend on a high note with an 8-6 win against Michigan.

5. North Carolina

Previous Ranking: No. 6 (+1)
Weekly Record: 3-0
Overall Record: 6-0

North Carolina defeated Kansas State 12-9 in an exciting midweek game to start the week, and then battled in-state rival East Carolina over the weekend. Friday’s game got pushed to Monday due to winter weather, but the two teams have gotten the first two games in thus far. UNC won a low-scoring pitcher’s duel in Durham on Saturday 2-0, and then won a higher-scoring affair on Sunday in Chapel Hill, 11-6. UNC is looking for the sweep in Greenville on Monday, but either way they have moved into the top five in D1Baseball’s rankings.

6. Georgia

Previous Ranking: No. 8 (+2)
Weekly Record: 5-0
Overall Record: 8-1

Georgia has looked very good early, just like last year. The Bulldogs started the second week with a pretty high-stakes 6-4 win at Kennesaw State, before finishing a four-game sweep over UIC over the weekend. Georgia did so with 9-3 and 15-1 wins on Friday, and then a 10-4 win on Saturday and a 17-3 victory on Sunday.

7. Florida State

Previous Ranking: No. 9 (+2)
Weekly Record: 4-0
Overall Record: 7-0

The Seminoles’ week started on the road with a strong 6-2 win at USF, and they then hosted Penn for a three-game series over the weekend. It was all Florida State, winning 24-2 on Friday, 9-3 on Saturday and 5-3 on Sunday to stay unbeaten on the season. The Seminoles are one of many teams moving up in D1Baseball’s rankings.

8. Florida

Previous Ranking: No. 10 (+2)
Weekly Record: 4-0
Overall Record: 7-0

Florida has put last season’s early struggles behind them. The Gators won 10-4 at Jacksonville on Tuesday to start the week before sweeping Dayton back at home over the weekend. Florida won 13-1 on Friday, 11-1 on Saturday and 12-2 on Sunday, simply dominating from start to finish in the three-game sweep.

9. Oregon State

Previous Ranking: No. 7 (-2)
Weekly Record: 2-2
Overall Record: 5-2

Oregon State’s week started with an 18-6 win over Xavier on Monday, and they then faced a big challenge over the weekend. It started on a high note with a 7-2 win over No. 2 Virginia, but that would be the Beavers’ last win of the weekend. They then lost 8-4 to Oklahoma on Saturday and 10-4 to Minnesota on Sunday, and they drop a couple of spots in D1Baseball’s top 25 rankings as a result.

10. Virginia

Previous Ranking: No. 2 (-8)
Weekly Record: 1-2
Overall Record: 3-3

The biggest drop among teams still in the top 10, it was a weekend to forget for Virginia. After falling 7-2 to No. 7 Oregon State on Friday, Virginia bounced back with a 4-2 win on Saturday to even its weekend record. Unfortunately, they were not able to end on top, and instead fell in a tight extra-innings game to Oklahoma, a team that joins this week’s top 25, on Sunday.
