Following the NCAA Tournament field being revealed on Selection Sunday, Dickie V has spoken. The college basketball legend made his picks for this year’s NCAA Tournament, selecting who he believes will be in the Elite Eight, the Final Four, and this season’s National Champion.

Filling out a bracket is never easy, and this year’s pool of teams doesn’t make it any easier with a group of elite top seeds, plenty of sleeper teams, and frisky conference champions. This year’s March Madness action officially tips off on March 16, and will surely be another year of exciting, non-stop action.

Vitale’s Elite Eight, Final Four, and National Championship predictions feature some of college basketball’s most dominant teams from this season like Kansas and Alabama, but also some picks that may surprise some. Check out Dickie V’s predictions below.

Dick Vitale’s March Madness predictions

Elite Eight

  • South Region – No. 1 Alabama vs No. 3 Baylor
  • Midwest Region -No. 5 Miami vs No. 2 Texas
  • East Region – No. 5 Duke vs No. 2 Marquette
  • West Region – No. 1 Kansas vs No. 3 Gonzaga

Final Four

  • No. 1 Alabama vs No. 5 Duke
  • No. 2 Texas vs No. 3 Gonzaga

National Championship

  • No. 1 Alabama (Vitale’s pick) vs No. 2 Texas

Vitale is riding with the Alabama Crimson Tide to go unbeaten in the NCAA Tournament and raise the National Championship trophy on April 2 in Houston. Alabama is certainly not a bad pick, with the Crimson Tide trailing only behind Houston with the most likely odds to win it all.

The Crimson Tide have had to fight their fair share of off-the-court issues this season, but on the court, they’ve taken care of business. They enter the tournament with a 29-5 record, securing the regular season SEC title and winning the SEC tournament.

The Longhorns also won their conference tournament, along with Duke, Gonzaga, and Marquette who also made Vitale’s Elite Eight. Duke and Miami are both the lowest seeds in Vitale’s Elite Eight, both selected as No. 5 seeds coming out of the ACC. The Blue Devils are one of the nation’s hottest teams with nine straight wins, including one over Miami, while the Hurricane’s are tied for the conference’s best record and also boast the ACC’s top offense in points per game and field goal percentage.

Vitale’s Alabama versus Texas national championship prediction would definitely be one for the ages, and would represent two of the biggest brand names across the entire college landscape. And now only time will tell if Dickie V’s predictions come true.
