Greg McElroy ranks Top 4 teams in ACC after Week 2
The ACC has already had an unpredictable year just two weeks into the 2024 college football season. It’s a start that’s already included several upset losses within the conference and a handful of surprise teams that have emerged early and climbed in the AP Top 25 Poll.
The road to an ACC title is still a long way away, but there’s no question that several teams have already separated themselves as early favorites to win a conference title. Setting the table for several high-stakes makes within the ACC in what should be a fascinating season for the league.
College football analyst Greg McElroy recently released power rankings for each of the Power Four conferences, ranking the top four programs in each league through Week 2. Check out who he tabbed as the top four for the ACC below.
1. Miami Hurricanes
There was plenty of hype surrounding the Miami Hurricanes entering the college football season following their impressive offseason of recruiting in the transfer portal led by signing quarterback Cam Ward. Kicking off the year with a 41-17 win at Florida followed by a dominant home win over Florida A&M this weekend. Ranked No. 10 in the country to lead all ACC teams.
“They’re at the top and not even by a little bit too, it’s a wide margin,” McElroy said. “Probably the biggest between the number one team and the number two team currently resides in the ACC.”
2. Louisville Cardinals
McElroy himself admitted that there’s still a lot to be learned about the Cardinals. Louisville has opened up the season 2-0 following lopsided victories, outscoring Austin Peay and Jacksonville State a combined 111-14 through Week 2.

Louisville shocked the ACC last season with an impressive 10-2 finish to the regular season to make the ACC title game in year one under new head coach Jeff Brohom. It’s a team that the college football landscape will learn a lot more about following their bye week after they face Georgia Tech.

3. Clemson Tigers
Following a rocky start to the season with a disappointing 34-3 loss to Georgia in Atlanta, Clemson looked like the dominant version of their program from the past in Week 2 with a 66-20 win over Appalachian State. The Tigers are program that faces a lot of pressure this year following three straight seasons outside of the College Football Playoff and an offseason without using the transfer portal.
“Clemson, one of the few teams in any of the leagues with a loss,” McElroy said. “But I liked the bounce back we got from Appalachian State, and frankly, they’re there by process of elimination.”
4. Boston College Eagles
Boston College rounds out McElroy’s top four power rankings following a surprising start to the season. Opening up the year by handing defending conference champion Florida State their second ACC loss of the season followed by a 56-0 win over Duquesne.
The Eagles snuck into the No. 24 spot of the most recent AP Top 25 Poll. Faced with a major opportunity to keep climbing in the rankings this Saturday as they face No. 6 Missouri on the road in one of the marquee matchups of Week 3.
