Take a bow: The On3 players of the week from Week 10
Here are the On3 players of the week for Week 10 of the season. Each week, we pick a player of the week in each Power 5 conference as well as an overall Group of 5 player of the week. Everything being equal, more weight is given to big performances against “good” opponents.
ACC
RB Ty Chandler, North Carolina
The buzz: The North Carolina-Wake Forest game was billed as a big-time quarterback battle, and the Tar Heels’ Sam Howell (320 yards of total offense, three TDs) and the Demon Deacons’ Sam Hartman (476 yards of total offense, seven TDs) certainly produced. But Chandler stole the show, especially in the second half, when the Heels rallied from 18 down to win 58-55. Chandler, a transfer from Tennessee, ran for 213 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries; three of his TDs came in the fourth quarter and covered a combined 84 yards. Chandler ran for 120 yards on 10 carries in the fourth period and 155 in the second half. He also had one reception for 30 yards. Chandler has been somewhat hit-or-miss with the Heels: This was his third 100-yard outing of the season, but he also has had five games of 66 or fewer yards.
Big Ten
QB Aidan O’Connell, Purdue
The buzz: For the second time this season, O’Connell had a monster game against a top-three opponent. The first time, in an upset of then-No. 2 Iowa, we picked Boilermakers WR David Bell as our Big Ten player of the week; this time, we’re picking O’Connell for his play against No. 3 Michigan State. O’Connell, a fifth-year junior who originally was a walk-on, was 40-of-54 for 536 yards and three TDs in the Boilermakers’ 40-29 upset. (Bell had 11 receptions for 217 yards and a TD, so we could’ve picked him again.) O’Connell’s passing-yards total ranks third in school history, and while he rushed for minus-13 yards, his 523 yards of total offense is fifth-most. It was the fifth 300-yard game of his career, and all his passing numbers were career-highs.
Big 12
QB Chandler Morris, TCU
The buzz: Morris’ first start for the Horned Frogs’ certainly was a memorable one. In TCU’s first game without Gary Patterson as coach since 2000, Morris — an Oklahoma transfer who is the son of former SMU and Arkansas coach Chad Morris — was 29-of-41 for 461 yards and two TDs, and also led the Horned Frogs in rushing with 70 yards and another touchdown in a 30-28 upset of No. 12 Baylor. The passing yardage total is fourth-most in school history and the 531 yards of total offense is second. Before Saturday, Morris had played in two games at TCU and was 10-of-15 for 131 yards and a TD. Morris started because of a foot injury to Max Duggan.

Pac-12
LB Devin Lloyd, Utah
The buzz: We easily could have picked Utah RB Tavion Thomas, who rushed for 177 yards and four TDs, but we went with Lloyd, who led a dominating defensive effort in a 52-7 rout of Stanford. Lloyd, listed as a fifth-year junior by Utah, had nine tackles, a sack, four tackles for loss, an interception return for a TD and a pass breakup as the Utes limited the Cardinal to 168 total yards. His interception return came in the fourth quarter. He now has three picks this season, and his TD return was the second of his career. Lloyd has 18 tackles for loss, second in the nation behind Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr. The Utes were especially stingy in the first half, which ended with Utah leading 38-0: Stanford had just 28 yards of offense and three first downs in the first two quarters.
SEC
QB Hendon Hooker, Tennessee
The buzz: Tennessee’s offense had the ball for just 13:52 against No. 18 Kentucky, but Hooker — a senior transfer from Virginia Tech — made sure those minutes counted. He was 15-of-20 for 316 yards and four TDs and also rushed for 41 yards as the Vols upset the host Wildcats 45-42. One Tennessee TD came from the defense, but UT still managed to score 38 offensive points in those 13 minutes, 52 seconds of possession. Hooker threw a 75-yard TD pass on the game’s first play from scrimmage, and he threw a 72-yard scoring pass later in the quarter. He also threw a TD pass late in the second quarter and another in the fourth that gave the Vols a 10-point lead. The Vols had the ball for just four plays and 37 total seconds in the first quarter, yet scored twice. Tennessee finished with 461 yards of offense. Hooker now has 21 TD passes (to just two picks), the most in a season by a Vols quarterback since Josh Dobbs threw 27 in 2016.
Group of 5
WR Trayvon Rudolph, Northern Illinois
The buzz: Rudolph had the most prolific performance by a wide receiver this season — and it came in a 52-47 loss to Kent State on Wednesday. Rudolph, a second-year freshman, had 14 receptions for 309 yards (the most by any receiver this season) and three touchdowns for the Huskies. His receptions total is tied for second-most in a game in school history (with current Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck, New York Giants receiver Kenny Golladay and former NFL receiver Sam Hurd), while the yardage total set an NIU single-game record. His scoring catches covered 36, 75 and 34 yards, and he had a touchdown in each of the first three quarters. Rudolph was credited with 138 yards after the catch. He went into the game with 18 receptions for 330 yards and four TDs, and now has 20 receptions for 469 yards and five TDs in his past two games. Rudolph was a quarterback in high school at Crete (Ill.) Crete-Monee and originally was a walk-on at NIU.
