Here are the On3 players of the week for Week 11 of the 2022 season. Each week, we pick players of the week in each Power 5 conference as well as an overall Group of 5 player of the week.

Everything being equal, more weight is given to big performances against “good” opponents.

ACC

North Carolina QB Drake Maye
The buzz:
Another week, another big performance from Maye, a redshirt freshman. He outdueled Wake Forest star QB Sam Hartman in UNC’s 36-34 victory; the win clinched a spot in the ACC Championship Game for the Tar Heels. Maye accounted for 512 yards of offense and four touchdowns. He threw for a career-high 448 yards and tossed three TD passes; he also rushed for a team-high 71 yards and another score as UNC rolled up 584 total yards and 30 first downs. Hartman and Wake had 490 yards of offense.

Big Ten

Penn State LB Abdul Carter
The buzz:
Penn State’s defense was dominant in a 30-0 victory over Maryland, and Carter – a freshman given the honor of wearing No. 11 on defense – stood out with his performance. He led the Nittany Lions with seven tackles, and had a sack, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. His strong performance helped Penn State limit the Terps to just 134 total yards – 291.4 yards below their season average. Penn State’s defense was especially effective in the first half, holding Maryland to 27 yards on 27 plays.

Big 12

TCU RB Kendre Miller
The buzz:
Miller doesn’t get enough attention in his own league, much less nationally, but he has been a big-time producer for the unbeaten Horned Frogs. He rushed for 138 yards and a TD as TCU won 17-10 at Texas. It was his fifth 100-yard game in a row and his seventh this season. He is eighth nationally and leads the Big 12 with 13 rushing touchdowns; he has at least one in every game this season. Miller scored on a 75-yard run with 5:08 left in the third quarter to give TCU a 10-0 lead. That run by itself was 47 more than Texas gained as a team during the game.

Pac-12

Arizona QB Jayden de Laura
The buzz:
De Laura, who transferred from Washington State in the offseason, guided the Wildcats to one of the biggest upsets of the season, a 34-28 stunner over then-No. 12 UCLA. The Bruins were favored by 19.5 points. De Laura accounted for three touchdowns. He was 22-of-28 for 315 yards and two touchdowns, and also scored on a 3-yard run late in the second quarter that gave Arizona a 21-14 halftime lead. De Laura threw a 17-yard TD pass to Tetairoa McMillan with 6:34 left that proved to be the game-winner. The pass came on fourth down, finished off an eight-play, 82-yard drive and gave the Wildcats a 31-28 lead. De Laura had a clutch 14-yard scramble on a third-and-18 play preceding the TD pass. The win snapped Arizona’s four-game losing streak; all four losses came to ranked teams.

SEC

LSU LB Harold Perkins
The buzz:
Perkins, a true freshman, had a true star-making performance in the Tigers’ 13-10 victory at Arkansas. Despite battling the flu, Perkins had eight tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. The four sacks tied a school single-game record, set by Chuck Wiley in 1995. Perkins had 3.5 sacks coming into the game. His second forced fumble came with 1:19 left in the game at Arkansas’ 38 and sealed LSU’s victory. He almost had another forced fumble earlier in the fourth quarter, but a replay review showed that he hit Cade Fortin a split-second after Fortin had started his throwing motion. Arkansas finished with 249 yards of total offense and averaged just 3.7 yards per play.

Group of 5

Troy LB Carlton Martial
The buzz:
Martial set an NCAA record with his performance in the Trojans’ 10-9 victory over Army. Martial, a 5-foot-9, 210-pounder who began his career as a walk-on, had 22 tackles in Troy’s win and became the NCAA’s career leader in tackles with 548. He had 17 tackles in the first half, and the record-setter came in the third quarter; the record had been 545 by Northwestern’s Tim McGarigle. It was Martial’s second career 20-tackle game, and the 22 tackles were second-most in a game in the FBS ranks this season (New Mexico S A.J. Haulcy had 24 in a loss to Fresno State).
