Take a bow: The On3 players of the week for Week 4
Here are the On3 players of the week for Week Four of the 2022 season. Each week, we pick players of the week in each Power 5 conference as well as an overall Group of 5 player of the week.
Everything being equal, more weight is given to big performances against “good” opponents.
ACC
QB D.J. Uiagalalelei, Clemson
The buzz: Uiagalalelei had 423 yards of total offense and Clemson needed every one of those in a 51-45 double-overtime victory over Wake Forest. Uiagalalelei, a third-year junior, threw for 371 yards and a career-high five TDs, and he also ran for 52 yards as the Tigers rolled up 559 yards of total offense. He threw two TD passes in the first quarter, another in the third and one in each of the overtimes. Uiagalalelei never had thrown more than two TD passes in a game and now has 10 this season – one more than he had all of last season.
Big Ten
QB Tanner Morgan, Minnesota
The buzz: Morgan, a fifth-year senior who has started since midway through his true freshman season, had one of the best games of his career in a 34-7 rout of Michigan State. He was 23-of-26 for 268 yards and three touchdowns as the Golden Gophers moved to 4-0. Morgan completed his final nine passes of the game, which included two scoring tosses. He has had back-to-back games with three TD passes for the first time since September 28 and October 5, 2019. Morgan threw for 200 yards in a game just twice last season; he’s already matched that this season.
Big 12
QB Adrian Martinez, Kansas State
The buzz: Martinez had 384 yards of total offense and accounted for five TDs as K-State upset previously unbeaten Oklahoma 41-34 in Norman. He came in averaging 151.0 total yards of offense per game. Martinez, a fifth-year senior, rushed for 148 yards and a career-high four TDs, and also threw for 234 and another score. The rushing total was the second-highest of his career, behind only the 157 he gained against Rutgers as Nebraska’s quarterback in the final game of the 2020 season. He left Nebraska for K-State after the 2021 season.

Pac-12
RB Jaydn Ott, California
The buzz: Ott, a true freshman, scored on a 73-yard run two plays into the game en route to a 274-yard, three-touchdown performance in Cal’s 49-31 win over Arizona. It was Cal’s highest point total since it scored 49 against Oregon State on October 20, 2018. He also scored on runs of 18 yards in the third quarter and 72 yards in the fourth period. His yardage total came on 19 carries (14.3 yards per attempt). His performance is third-most in school history, behind 311 by Jahvid Best in 2008 and 283 by Jerry Drew in 1954. Ott had rushed for 85 yards total in his past two games. Ott was a four-star prospect from Norco (Calif.) High, the same school that produced Toby Gerhart.
SEC
QB Hendon Hooker, Tennessee
The buzz: Hooker, a fifth-year senior, set a career-high in total offense with 461 yards as the Vols outlasted Florida 38-33 for just their second win over the Gators in 18 seasons. Hooker threw for 349 yards and two TDs, and added 112 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The 349-yard passing total was the second-highest of his career; the highest came in last season’s Music City Bowl. The bowl outing was the only other time in his career he reached the 400-yard mark in total offense. The 112-yard rushing total was the third-highest in his career; the two higher totals came at Virginia Tech, which he left after the 2020 season.
Group of 5
QB Chase Cunningham, Middle Tennessee State
The buzz: Cunningham, a fifth-year senior, threw for a career-high 408 yards as the Blue Raiders stunned Miami 45-31. He threw three touchdown passes – all of at least 69 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown as MTSU piled up 507 yards of total offense. His 408 passing yards came on just 16 completions – an astounding 25.5 yards per completion.
