The College Football Playoff has announced that the 2027 National Championship Game will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The game will take place on Monday, January 25, 2027, to wrap up the 2026 college football season.

The CFP committee made the announcement on Friday, just days after the 2025 National Championship Game between Ohio State and Notre Dame took place. It was previously announced that the 2026 National Championship Game will be played in Miami in January of 2026.

“College football fans across the country are going to be thrilled to hear this news today,” the Executive Director of the College Football Playoff Rich Clark said. “Las Vegas has shown the world they have amazing venues and boundless energy to host an event like the College Football Playoff National Championship in spectacular fashion.

“I can’t think of a better stage to crown the best team in college football in 2027. I also want to thank Steve Hill and the entire Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for the hard work and dedication they put in to making this day a reality for their city.”

Las Vegas will be the third city in the Pacific time zone to host the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, joining the Bay Area and Los Angeles. This past year’s national title game was played in Atlanta.

Report: Tampa replaces Dallas for College Football Playoff National Championship Game in 2029

The College Football Playoff has only announced national championship game sites through the 2027 game, but Brett McMurphy recently revealed some other future dates.

According to McMurphy, The 2029 College Football Playoff National Title Game will be played in Tampa. The game was previously scheduled to be played in Dallas, per McMurphy. He also reports that the 2028 game will be played in New Orleans, while the 2030 game will be played in Miami.

A future host site isn’t the only change potentially on the docket. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips suggested a major change to the College Football Playoff and conference championship formats.

“Interesting idea ACC commish Jim Phillips brought up with a few of us: crown regular season conference champ and reward them w/ CFP AQ,” CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello said via X. “On ‘championship’ weekend pit second and third place teams for a spot in the CFP.”

Change is likely coming to the CFP format either way. Expanding even further from 12 teams may occur as soon as 2026 when a fresh television deal is put in place. As of right now, the reported number sits at 14. Just one more guaranteed year of 12 teams remain.
