College Football Playoff: CBS Sports predicts 12-team CFP bracket, full bowl slate projections after Week 4
The College Football Playoff and bowl game projections are here after Week 4 of the 2024 regular season, per CBS Sports.
The 12-team bracket saw some changes after the results over the weekend. Some went up and some went down. But it’s still a very intriguing bracket, if the season ended today of course.
Let’s dive into the College Football Playoff and postseason bowl projections from CBS Sports. The CFP teams will show movement up or down or an “NR” for not ranked in last week’s top 12 teams.
The top four teams in the country have a first-round bye in the 12-team playoff bracket.
1. Georgia
Georgia remained the top team in the country, per the CBS playoff projections. This’ll be a first-round bye of course.
The Bulldogs have a big game on the road against Alabama this weekend which could determine the top of the pecking order in the SEC. That could also drastically alter the projections.
2. Ohio State
Ohio State started slow but cruised to a blowout victory over Marshall last weekend. Now, the Buckeyes open Big Ten play against Michigan State.
As it stands right now, this is your projected Big Ten champion, likely unbeaten, and it’ll give Ohio State a first round bye. Another week, nothing’s changed here.
3. Utah (+1)
Here’s a big change from last week after Utah’s win over Oklahoma State. Couple that with a Kansas State loss, Utah is in the driver’s seat in the Big 12.
And, the Utes did this without Cam Rising due to injury. Freshman QB Isaac Wilson can man the ship, making projections about Utah a little clearer. This team could actually climb to a top three spot.
4. Miami (-1)
With that, CBS had to drop Miami a spot, despite the Hurricanes cruising. But we’ll chalk this one up to strength of schedule.
When we get closer to the end of the season, it’ll be very interesting to see where Miami and Utah stack up, if they remain at the top of their conferences. It seems like the SEC and Big Ten separated themselves.
No. 5 Texas vs. No. 12 Boise State (NR)
Texas remained in this spot but it’s easy to see the Longhorns become CBS’ new No. 1 team in the playoff. That’s if they beat Georgia of course.
Boise State is back at the top of the Group of Five, so they get the final spot in the playoff bracket. We would certainly love to see Ashton Jeanty take on that Texas defense.
No. 8 Iowa State vs. No. 9 Penn State
This matchup remained the same as last week with Penn State heading to Ames. Okay, it’s not guaranteed right now.
Still, Iowa State looks like a legit playoff team out of the Big 12 right now while Penn State would be the third highest ranked team out of the Big Ten to make the playoff. We’ll see how conference play determines these projections from CBS.
No. 6 Alabama vs. No. 11 Clemson (NR)
Alabama stayed in this spot behind Georgia and Texas in the SEC pecking order. But that could change with a win over Georgia this weekend.

Clemson is back in the playoff race! That;s right. A dominant win over NC State and seemingly some bounce back weeks after a loss to Georgia turned things around internally and all around sports media. At least, for now.
No. 7 Oregon vs. No. 10 Michigan (NR)
Oregon is the second highest ranked Big Ten team in these playoff projections and they would host new Big Ten foe Michigan. The Wolverines are back!
Michigan handled USC on the ground in a close win in Ann Arbor Saturday. It halted the buzz about the Trojans and suddenly made people remember the defending national champions.
