College Football Playoff: CBS Sports predicts 12-team CFP bracket, full bowl slate projections after Week 11
The latest CBS Sports College Football Playoff predictions are in following Week 11 of the season. The outlet projected the bracket as well as the entire bowl slate.
Throughout the season, the College Football Playoff selection committee will rank the Top 25 teams as it’s done since its inception in 2014. The difference, though, is those rankings will become seedings at the end of the year to get the 12-team bracket. The five highest-ranked conference champions make the field – the four highest-ranked get first-round byes – and the next seven highest-ranked teams round things out.
That’s why the seedings will look different from the rankings. Ohio State was a good example in the first CFP rankings reveal. The Buckeyes were the No. 2-ranked team, but because Oregon was the projected Big Ten champion, Ohio State dropped to the No. 5 seed.
Here’s where CBS Sports’ projections stand after Week 11.
1. Ohio State (+1)
The new CBS Sports playoff projections have Ohio State grabbing the No. 1 seed and winning the Big Ten. So, that means beating Oregon in Indianapolis and going into the bracket at 12-1.
This is totally possible. Let’s not forget this Buckeyes team only lost to the Ducks by a point on the road.
2. BYU (+5)
There must be chaos because BYU is going to get the No. 2 seed coming out of the Big 12. How? Well, they’re most likely going to have to be 13-0 going into the playoff, just based on the schedule and other teams.
Even an undefeated champ won’t get the spot over Ohio State, especially if the Buckeyes are 12-1 and split with Oregon, a regular No. 1. Still, BYU gets a high seed, as of now.
3. Alabama (+6)
The Crimson Tide vaulted up CBS’ playoff projections as the new SEC champion. That’s right, coming out of the fire is Alabama and Kalen DeBoer!
A two loss champ? You bet. That means Alabama wins out and gets by Texas in the SEC title game. Since they have two losses in this scenario, Texas is likely 11-1 going into Atlanta for the conference crown.
4. Miami (-1)
Miami dropped a spot following the upset loss to Georgia Tech. However, the ‘Canes are the projected ACC champion and will get a bye in the playoff.
You can be concerned at the way Miami has played lately, very dangerously. But, they’re still the best team in the conference. SMU might have something to say about it, but Miami gets the edge right now
12. Boise State at 5. Oregon
This is the same projected playoff matchup from last week. Boise State nearly knocked off Oregon on the road in the regular season.
Can they do it in the playoff? Tough to say, but never count out Heisman candidate Ashton Jeanty. The Ducks are projected to lose the Big Ten title game to Ohio State.
9. Notre Dame (+1) at 8. Penn State
Penn State remained in the same spot as last week as the third Big Ten team into the playoff. But they have a different opponent in these projections.
At this rate, Notre Dame is on track for an 11-1 season, despite that ugly loss to NIU. It begs to the question of how high the Fighting Irish can climb. Again, Notre Dame can’t go higher than five due to being independent.
11. Indiana (NR) at 6. Georgia (-5)
Indiana is in CBS’ projections this week now that the Hoosiers are 10-0. Playoff bound Indiana? No one had that in the preseason.

But, Indiana would head to Athens as Georgia dropped five spots from last week per CBS. The loss to Ole Miss really muddied up the playoff picture for the Bulldogs.
10. Tennessee (+1) at 7. Texas (-1)
Both Tennessee and Texas shifted, yet they were projected to meet in the first round of the playoff last week. The Longhorns hosting this all-SEC affair would be a dandy.
Both teams only have one loss in the SEC right now. Something has to give the rest of the way, right?
